I've had leaks in this location too with both my Xm's. Once it was the pressure sensor that had split and leaked (probably damaged when replacing the 4HP20 gearbox). Replaced it with a spare I had only to find out there are 2 versions which work the same, but have a different blue connector. My donor car was from '98 and this break I had to fit it to from '99. I had the cable with the different connector on spare too (from the same donor car) so swapped that too. Luckily the connector on the other end of the cable (underneath the LHM tank on LHD Xm) was left the same bij Citroën.

Second Xm had a leak there which turned out tho be the return pipe that had split. NFP of course, and the one from my donor car had failed in the same way so I made something up. The work/result you can see here:

It's in Dutch, but the pictures might give you an idea.

It was good to meet you on the weekend Rob and all the best of luck with the new car. I am sure you will soon get the hydraulic leak fixed and not regret acquiring a V6!! With regards, Matthew T.

Got the car to the garage ok this morning so it's just a matter of waiting to hear back from them when they have decided how little money I can live on - sorry I meant when they have secured a cost effective yet safe repair.

Leaky pipe repaired! :D And the cost was bearable which is unusual for the garage, they're usually on the internet booking holidays when I roll up in an XM. Got some quotes for some other work that needs doing in the future so I am now in a position to get others and shop around.

Always nice to find when putting new CDs into the changer (yes I know it is old tech!) that the previous owner shares one's excellent taste!

Hi Rob, I know you don't have the mandarin car anymore but how did you get on with that steering rack gaiter for the MOT? Was it hard to do and did you get an original part?

I was searching for a 'self help' on this topic and you were the most recent one on this topic.

It was done at my local expensive independent and the bill including rear pads was somwewhere around £250. I believe the part used was OE but initially the wrong one was supplied because the diagram consulted was for a lhd drive car and neither the garage or the supplying dealer spotted that. If it is the passenger side one, it is a lot more fiddly to do than the other one.

Afraid that is about all I can tell you.

I have found a time served panel beater and mechanic to sort out the bits of welding required in a couple of weeks time - at a fraction of the price my independent quoted me. I have the stressed the need for quality rather than cheapness, so we will see.

The chap I am using is into restoration work in addition to his day job working for a major local dealership where he is currently restoring a 50 year old Fiat 500 for the Principal. His interest is F*rds, but I won't hold that against him if he does a good job for me.

Good news Rob that the v6 will get the finishing touches now to make it perfect again...I quite fancied this car myself, but alas, my life reminded me that I cant run a TD never mind a V6

Thanks Rob, as it happens I have to replace to passenger sides on both cars :( Serious head ache so I bought 2 gaiters from citroen but they're plastic and there is no way I can get them to fit over the ram. So I'll have to go and buy rubber ones which will be hard enough to do.

Personally I think it is non sense to have this a MOT failure. It's purely academic of course and yes water and dirt can cause the seal in time to start leaking. At least I would notice straight away with dark staines on the gravel :( Anyways it's a horrible desighn and sure your mechanic had enough trouble with it.

I've heard there are actually very nice Fords around in the world :)
