If there was ever an argument for all-electric cars, that could be it!Dieselman wrote:If the same radiator is used on the ES9 and the 2.1TD, it must be pretty over specced for the 2.1.
ES9 generates 150Kw of motive power at 75% loss, so wastes maximum 450kw as heat. The 2.1TD generates 80Kw of motive power at 62% loss, so wastes maximum 210kw as heat.

No point letting someone else have all your waste heat.
Instead of filling your electric car with heavy batteries, fill you if car with heavy bricks and run your exhaust and coolant flow pipes through them, then when you get home its a matter of hooking up your domestic heating circuit to pipes buried in you thermal store car. You could then be smug in the knowledge you are harnessing most of your own waste energy, not moving it.
The car may be a touch weighty mind and economy could suffer as a result, meh

Actually it'd probably be even less than that, if only marginally due to the extra noise created by the diesel... did I say marginally?Dieselman wrote:If the same radiator is used on the ES9 and the 2.1TD, it must be pretty over specced for the 2.1.

Re: Rob's SED Now V6 Exclusive
But the diesel radiator must work with less temperature differential available, because the air is pre-heated by the inter-cooler??

The poor things burn one helluva lot less fuel, and none at all going downhill.
Personally, I don't think they'll ever catch on.

Re: Rob's SED Now V6 Exclusive
Repairs now completed and car back home. Apparently it was a pig to bleed the cooling system.
Polo is getting a new wheel bearing tomorrow and I suspect the Multi will be after one next week.

I suspect that they missed one or two of the 4 bleeding points, as normally they are no problem.ragger wrote:Repairs now completed and car back home. Apparently it was a pig to bleed the cooling system.

Re: Rob's SED Now V6 Exclusive
When under motion, the actual noise emitted by the diesel engine may be less than the petrol engine. Noise transmitted into the body may well be greater due to the lower frequency passing through the stiffer engine mounts.ekjdm14 wrote:Actually it'd probably be even less than that, if only marginally due to the extra noise created by the diesel... did I say marginally?Dieselman wrote:If the same radiator is used on the ES9 and the 2.1TD, it must be pretty over specced for the 2.1.

Didn't make it to the X Rally this year but I did get out for a fine run up Wensleydale and back down Swaledale, crossing over Buttertubs.
