Graeme check past citroenians for how to change the atf. Pretty easy to do. And essential. Rev it, it needs revving!

I agree with Robert. A cold IDI TD isn't going to be packing a punch.

I find my Bosch equipped car a pain to drive compared to the Lucas equipped one, it just needs lots of accelerator all the time to make it go quickly. Try turning up the fueling a bit.

Thing is, the ATF is crystal clear and was reportedly one of the things done to it before the end of 2012, Certainly the car did have the all round new brake disks and pads and the engine oil was clear with a new filter so I guessed the ATF was changed as the guy said and of course, being clean - looking suggests it had been (no receipts tho..) perhaps they changed the fluid but not the filter?

Filter is a guaze that needs cleaned. The other thing to be wary about is did they use the correct dextron 2 fluid and not any old universal atf crap. You do need to give them the welly. They are heavy cars.

The gauze is easy to clean. Just undo the three 10mm bolts on the bottom of the case and out it comes. there's also a swarf magnet in there too. I've always used the filter cover as a convenient drain point. Watch it though as you need a big container as the ATF comes out in a big mess gulp!

Good point on using proper Dexron 2. Comma do a good one and for the cost it's worth doing it again just for peace of mind.

Equally true on a TCT. It needs plenty of welly to get moving and to prevent the gearbox changing up too early. An early change to a high gear is great for moseying through town but not for making progress...

I agree with the Comma Dexron 2. £16 at my local motor factors. Cheaper than a box recon!!

I'm glad you both recommend Comma, I will be doing a fluid change and wondered what was best to use. I knew it was important to get the right fluid.

What is the best way to clean the gauze, ...petrol?

Just a rinse in petrol for the filter Russ as you say and they are not usually that dirty! Regards, Matthew T.

Aye petrol, just like the gauze filter in the LHM tank. Don't forget to clean the magnet of any swarf and REMEMBER to put the magnet back. I find using a long necked funnel ideal for refilling the 'box. You should get 3 litres out of the 'box as the torque converter hangs on to quite a lot. Two drains in quick succession is ideal to get all the crappy old fluid out.

This is the stuff Comma AQM

I used a bit of brake cleaner and a small soft brush Russ. I dunked it in a jar of brake cleaner and then carefully brushed it and finished it off with a gentle blow from an airline. The filter is very much like am LHM reservoir filter in construction and thus is not too robust. Also, it is a double-layered filter with the layers being separated by perhaps about 5 or 6mm which makes cleaning a little hard so hence the small soft brush that will get between the layers.

Petrol will do just as well as a cleaning fluid...
