At least your enjoying driving it though Jim :P

Well, the brother in law is booked for this sunday....this should see the o/s/r brake light fixed.... ;) I had a good look around everything last night and noticed that my nsf tyre will probably pass the MOT, but is getting a little low so I reckon a replacement will be needed to match the rest.

Once the cv boot is done and I have an MOT, tax and insurance, a trip over to Paul's will be necessary I think.

I need an OSF drivers door scraper seal, a hose clip for one of the expansion bottle pipes, and a tweeter (speaker) for the drivers side front in the dash. The headliner needs re tacking up at the front and then a new set of wipers front and back and then its I'm back in top shape 8-)

Progress Vince! Always good :)

For a matching tyre best bet is eBay I think and get a pair and stick the other good one from that axle as the spare.

No problem Paul, im not sure when it would be but of course it would be subject to you being ok for me to come over... ;)

Will, your right on the ebay front, the replacement P6000 i have ready for the OSF came from ebay. Its nearly new and cost me £25 collected on a vectra steel rim, which its still sat on. Ill get another one and get them both swapped onto the xm rims via someone through work ;)

It's where I got my ladies replacement tyre for her brand new golf when it blew on the morrow way after only a few months of owning it. £30 to match to the others and everywhere I tried was after at least £120 for one!

Came from a passat spare wheel when the car was broken for parts :)

A quick update.....well ive been rather busy with the xm :)

In ongoing preparation work for the MOT test (not yet booked in) ive been rejuvenating it somewhat....

Things that have gone well

New Bosch wiper blades front and rear
LHM leak in the OSF wheel arch area traced to a split strut return hose. Luckily I still had two new bagged citroen ones as spares, so a new one was fitted.
Down the back of the engine bay from underneath I found a hose of some description where the jubilee clip had worked loose so that was re fitted.
The drivers side outer sill jacking points have been straightened out, surface rust removed and the stoneguard re painted.
The refurbished spare wheel carrier has been refitted
The rear axle mounts have been cleaned up and resealed to stave off corrosion
The relays and wiring in the inner wings behind the headlights have been tidied up and pinned up out of the view

Things that didn't go so well

When working on the drivers side sill area the underfloor drain hole looked a bit crusty...so after I prodded it it went through, so I rrmoved the rust metal to leave a nice tidy hole which will now need repairing
I won x 3 Pirelli p6000 tyres off ebay for cheap money with the intention of replacing one of my front tyres and keeping the others as spares. Unfortunately two turned up down to the wear indicators and the other had better tread but side wall damage where the rim has been bent in through an impact. So all scrap
Finally the xm ran out of diesel on the drive  Its been a year since ive put anything in it though :|

Oh well, tonight I broke out the steam cleaner and cleaned up the inner wing sections and most of the electrical plugs. I also gave my FDV as light coat of satin black as it was showing light surface corrosion...at least now its moisture proof ;)

So...my next plan is to get a pre MOT inspection arranged to see what needs to be done and then I can get it done....somehow :?

My brother in law has been a complete let down and not turned up for any pre arranged repair sessions.....

The little hole should be an easy repair job at a garage Vince, though if push comes to shove it could be cleaned up and liquid metal used and painted over it...

If you need any help I'm not to far away and can lend a hand when I get some free time, I also have a good few 20litre jerry cans you can use for diesel and the correct spout for them but haven't used it in a while so it may not seal to well anymore :)

Thanks Will...I'll see how I get on but I'll most likely get a garage to carry out the repair. I looked again today....its a lot smaller than I remembered :)

Ill have a look Paul yes...It is the only thing that still scares me on xm's....how they rust from the inside out...id love to get a media blaster so you can strip through everything and see what your dealing with then build it back up again ;)

I didn't get much time on it today, but I got one satisfying job done.....

Since I got the car, the leading edge of the nsr bumper has never been secured properly as the bracket has rotten through. Ive pondered many times as to how im going to get it fixed thinking perhaps it will be a garage job....so the other day a thought popped into my head.....

Today I stripped out the arch liner and removed the wheel so I could get access to the bumper mount area. Ive managed to effect a solid fix by clamping the two pieces together with a small universal mudflap bracket. I must say it was a doddle to do and its solid as a rock now :) Its not 100% perfect on the bumper alignment but you'd be hard pushed to tell if you didn't compare it to the other side....see what you think.....Of course a proper bracket fabrication etc would be ideal but I don't have access to that so I have to be inventive ;)

Here are some other pics of recent work done, some refurbed stuff, others results of steam cleaning in the engine bay :P

What does the code mean on the inner wing?...the paint code I believe?
