Arrived back this lunchtime after a couple of days in the Cotswolds to visit my family because my 86 year old Mum managed to fall and dislocate and otherwise damage her shoulder - bedroom athletics my Dad said... and he's 88!

Anyway the XM was a star returning over 41 mpg on the first half of the trip including a fair bit of running about. Even better, I was able to do the return journey today (260 miles) non stop in just under 4 hours without ever caning it. In fact for the first three hours or so I kept under an indicated 70, but I have always found that the longer you drive the more your speed tends to creep up.

Saw very little of interest on the trip apart from a very smart looking 3.6 Jag XJS and a white Volvo Amazon. the only car I saw stopped on the motorway was a Golf.

I also need to update my signature as I sold my 2CV on Monday just before I set off. I shall miss it because I really loved the purity of the driving experience - every trip was an event. On the other hand the money will be useful for next year's insurance for the asortend young drivers I seem to have to fund.

Seriously though, I do find car values unfathomable; there is no way the 2CV should have been easy to sell for 25% more than I struggled to sell a cracking Saab 9-5 (2004 2.3t with low miles and sh). Crackers!

Excellent John. That would be very interesting if they can supply glovebox struts.
