Just missed your reply there citroenxm, I'll bypass it but might use the priming bulb instead of the 10mm pipe. That seems like an ok place for it

The fuel heaters leak air in at the O ring at the top of the barrel.

My car has driven me mad trying to stop air ingress. I think it's finally OK now as it starts fine after several weeks lay up.

Well, I just spent an hour fitting in a new section of pipe from the end of the metal pipe above the manifold to the inlet of the filter housing. I found that the connection here at the end was not great and possibly right away this was the source of the leak as there was no DERV in the length of pipe. I fitted the priming bulb in the middle of this section and primed it prior to finally connecting to the filter housing. It primed quickly and flowed well suggesting the gauze pick up in the tank is not blocked. I connected it to the filter and used the new primer bulb with the bleed open and it bled fine here. Finally restarted it and it ran smoothly but tomorrow morning its the test!

To add to my woes I spotted a damp patch on the ground directly under the PRV/ FDV area......

I have left the pipes attached to the fuel heater temporarily but I realise how hard the pipes have become so plenty opportunity for leakage then.

Finally, I checked for obvious leaks with the primer around the filter housing, the can underneath and the bleeds with pressure on the bulb - didn't spot any and the bulb and the filter's own primer button on top both went rigid so no obvious leaks so far.

Heater plugs and leak off pipes all renewed a few weeks back.

Driving the Xantia today revealed the rear brakes of it are semi siezed as they come on late and cause the tail to lift. it goes away after a while so it's not a bleeding issue.

I think the XM will be fine tomorrow..

Haha I'd get photos of this work but it's always dark and at night!

After all that work in the dark it had jolly well better be!

I'm sure it will...

Xantia rear calipers Graeme  Beware, they can be 'fun'.. Many good tales of woe on the FCF...

I believe the XM is less prone, having alloy trailing arms...

Cheers Jim, and it was good this morning. Started on the button, no smoke, no uneven firing and it pulled up the hill easily. It must've been well down on power before.

Xantia calipers! Jim, I know all about it and have a set of new genuine Citroen caliper bolts waiting for the inevitable....

Well, that's good news Graeme, at least one thing is nicely fixed now...

Sounds like one of your parking brake cables has snapped...

It's a XM  Sorry, they all do that...

Never worry, there comes a time when nothing else can go wrong, for a few days at least...

Welcome to the club Graeme. Two weeks ago the starter motor packed in. Had the car back a week and the drivers window regulator packed up. XM's, you've gotta love 'em!!

I bet the parking brake cable has jumped off at the caliper end, due to being too slack.
