Daughter has passed driving test this morning! That is all three young drivers through their tests so I just have to worry about different things now.

Thanks Jim :D
Can't afford to buy them a car each I am afraid! I am considering a change from the Hyundai though, and the favourite as a replcement at the moment is a Fiat Idea. I have looked at a couple and like the size and ease of access - and the head room. The lack of head room is my only real niggle about the XM, but I am prepared to live with it. I rather fancy the diesel version of the Fiat but there is a very nice petrol one that is fully loaded with every availble extra it seem for sale locally, the only downside is it is more than I really want to pay.

You may think a Fiat is an odd choice, but we have owned a Multipla (well three really) over the last thirteen years and they are fantastically practical cars, the Boss really flipped out when I sold her last one without telling her and I had it to replace it as a matter of extreme urgency in order to remain intact. The Idea seems to me to be a smaller, less interesting looking version of the Multi and it would appear to suit our needs well. We shall see. I did consider a C3 but they are much smaller than I expected so are not suitable.

I've got much the same dilemma Rob. Robyn had a Pug 206 but couldn't afford to run it when she went back to Uni but now she's resigned from Uni I guess she's going to need a car again and her little sister is already making noises about her sharing her Pixo..

So I guess I'll be looking out for something small, cheap and economical for Robyn now. I can't get away with saying I can't afford having just splashed out on another XM

Sian loves her Pixo and Robyn raves about it too, claiming it's much better than a 206 :o  I must say though the Pixo is doing her well. Simple as they come, basic as a basic thing and reasonably well screwed together. £20 tax, lowest insurance there is and cheap to buy. I'm sure second-hand they're worth pennies so I might just get her one of those..

Less aggro for me keeping it on the road for them. They don't demand a lot of attention!

Unlike their owners

Ran out of curses at my own stupidity this morning.

I discovered how little structural integrity there is in the "extra" rear screen, resulting in an unimpressive crunching sound and a shower of glass fragments. The only saving grace is that it was entirely my fault and so I am just really p***ed off at myself.

So... if anyone has manged to hang on to a screen that they would be prepared to part with, I am in the market for one. I am hoping/intending to go to the X Rally in April and the Northern in May, so perhaps a deal could be done at one of those events?

Hello Rob
Red estate still plugging away, 179,000 miles now. No major issues yet, apart from the steering rack ram pin last year. Still has a cracked windscreen!

Good to hear from you, Jonathan. Beginning to think you might have nailed a bargain there. :-0
The motor in that car was certainly very fit.

Rob, how did you do the inner window in then?

I must admit I've worried about doing the same thing...

So you managed to do a perfect 'Just a Minute' then with no repetition, deviation or hesitation on the subject of profanity...

Nicholas Parsons would be so proud...
