Will look soon, What's the thoughts on leaving it in 'Park' alone on the transmission?

And if you put an XM together with an Activa they plot togetherruss92xmsed wrote:I'm convinced they sit out there plotting..

I always park my XM and Activa separately and normally park my V6 Xantia with the XM so she has a good solid example to follow...
I always do, on both of them. It's become a bad habit of mine now. However I always allow the cat to come to a complete halt and allow Park to engage gently. On a steep hill I'll use the parking brake though but generally I see no problem on the flat in just using Park.Aerodynamica wrote:What's the thoughts on leaving it in 'Park' alone on the transmission?
the park pawl is pretty massive and well up to the job...

Re: My 1993 XM 2.1 SD Auto L322 VCV
I gathered that but the vehicle is also equipped with a 'parking brake' that prompts the question: "given that the vehicle has two separate parking devices, is it permissible to rely on only one alone"? And more specifically: "is it permissible to rely on the one not common to all versions of the design"? i.e not the caliper braked one.
Anyway, more constructively: New pair of front boots to cure the slow speed wobble and 70mph vibration has certainly cured the wobble - bit of a twist in the tread. Trouble is that it still vibrated at 70. The tyre place balanced one wheel but the other seems to have a slight out-of-true to it. He said it needed a fair amount of weights in the one spot that were 3 rim-clipped weights and one just in towards the inside of the wheel on the 'flat'. He said it 'should' be OK presumably as the bend wasn't too severe. Anyway, I notice the car is smooth at all times till 70 where it vibrates - OK so I presume it's the bend that's causing it but the mystery to me is that the vibration isn't constant, it's coming in waves (constant speed) as if two vibrations are coming in and out of phase. I'm sure it wasn't like that before but maybe it was just so severe that it couldn't be detected. I'm guessing I have two wheels vibrating that are coming in and out of phase.
So do I take the wheels back for a rebalance? As the other front wheel would surely be incorrectly balanced too for this to happen?

As I say Will, I'm into bad habits and one day when I drive my Activa it's really going to bite me

Parking foot brake is for MOT tests only! Put your spare wheel on Graeme!

Yeh the spare is a 5th alloy with a worn tyre. I'll pop it on to test out balance or if its bent too, just a bit of a pisser that I just got a new tyre fitted to a damaged rim. Should the tyre place have checked first?

Bit hard to check. Only find out when its too late. I forgot you have those horrid centreless things! Maybe that's part of the problem. They are a nightmare to balance.

I can recommend ATS Euromaster for balancing centre less alloys.

Re: My 1993 XM 2.1 SD Auto L322 VCV
I can second that. The C5 has centre less wheels and are a pain to balance too....but ATS seem to be very capable in doing it.
