My latest V6 XM

Well the red XM has been here for 2 months now. Finally though I've had the garage empty when I've had time to have a look at it!

On Saturday evening I put the car in the garage on the ramp and got a look under it. It was indeed the front electrovalve that was leaking. The aluminium hex at the base had corroded away to nothing. I had one from the Xantia V6 I broke in the summer so I've put that on and tested it, the suspension is now working properly, it's nice and soft again and the leak has disappeared :D

I had a good look around it today and must admit to being pretty impressed with it's overall condition. It doesn't seem to be anywhere near as rotten underneath as I was expecting it to be either.

I've always known that my silver S2 XM was one of the last, being built on 26th May 2000 when the XM stopped being produced sometime in June 2000. This red car though is 4 days newer then my silver one :) Interestingly though, they were BOTH registered on 28th June 2000.

Anyway, I hope rust isn't catching as they're parked nose to tail in the workshop at the moment.

That is good news about fixing the leak David and do you plan to keep the second car? I wish I had a garage that size! With regards, Matthew T. PS. Any luck with the aircon plug!

The plot thickens... Although going by the RP number the red car is 4 days newer then my silver car, the silver cars chassis number is 4 cars later.

Red car chassis number ends in 5189, the silver cars ends in 5193.

Presumably the RP gets allocated when the car leaves the production line, while the chassis number gets put on before the base unit gets painted. Maybe...

A nice pair of real late-comers, presumably sporting every possible last-minute mod, and transitional bits on the way to the "next" model!

Very interesting. Glad to hear it's better than expected David. It does look a lovely car, and nice to see a late XM in red too.

I like the coloured bumper strips even though some don't. I like that car lift!

I've heard that these late cars are multiplexed. Not sure how to tell though!

According to my records the only multiplexed XM's were diesels.
They were specific batches supplied to France only.

Test beds for the C5 I suppose. I wonder if any XM's or Xantias were secretly fitted with hydractive 3? Makes you wonder....
