Finally arrived back in Kent late last night.
600 miles from Ireland via Cairnryan.
She didn't seem unduly stressed... And nor did her driver... Will post some photos later.

Hi Rory,
Have you set the picture as your signature as it is appearing on every post you make. As a signature picture it is way too large.

Open up your picture in Paint, Picassa, or something like, and reduce to 10% of size (or even less) to make it a thumbnail, to replace the original.
BTW, is that a view of the car from a nice old tram or railway carriage?

Sorry about the signature photo, just deleted it!
Photo was actually from my mum's living room!
Here she is in Kent:
Note the interesting headlamp washer on the driver's side...

...yes, and the blacked-out chrome trim. Very North American Amish!

Well 6 weeks into ownership and still enjoying every moment...
Slight problem with the rear cigarette lighter but, touch wood, other than that everything is good..
I think I am even getting used to the footbrake...

The footbrake is a bit fiddly until you get the hang of it on a manual car, simple enough on an auto.
Just think how fiddly it would be in original domestic market LHD form, stopping on a hill would be interesting, at least they got a foot rest though.
Always thought the pedal should be damped to stop the clunk on release that's hard to avoid on manual cars when setting off.

You know, it's rather strange. I was afraid of it a bit, too, after the BX and AX. But I hardly ever use the foot brake for anything but parking. LHD. Even on a hill, the normal brakes and quick handling of the clutch/gas seems to do it every time. You simply grab her before she starts to roll in the wrong direction.

I never use the footbrake for hill starts, but don't find it a problem anyway. I understand the concerns about the ratchet wearing out, but in reality, it's not going to happen, so keep the release pushed in, other than when releasing the pedal.
The same system is fitted to most Mercedes and the release is spring loaded to always be int he latching position. I've never heard of one wearing out.
