xm v6 12 valve hydrulic pump removal

Hi everyone
It seems my hydraulic pump appears to have a bearing failure as front/pully end of pump is getting rather hot and making the belt smoke along with a squeeking noise ( best i can explain it)
Question is there a special allen key for loosening the tension bolt or do i have to pay a vast sum to some south american surgeon to rearrange the shape of my hands to be able to get the thing loose ?
Maybe i am not trying hard enough but if anyone out there has taken off/ replaced the pump any advice would be gratefully received
Thanks

You need to loosen the locknut before attempting to turn the tensioner bolt. Access is tight, but possible.
A slipping belt will cause heat and smoke from the belt. These belts need to be very tight due to the drive and pump pulleys being smaller and the pump being driven by the cam, so the drive pulley is only half engine speed.
Ideally upgrade to a heavy duty belt and ensure it is tight: a worn belt will be sitting further down in the flanges than normal, thus exacerbating the drive issue.
Edit:
Locknut is item 32 on this diagram.
Also loosen pivot bolt, Item 30.

An XPZ belt is the heavy duty version of SPZ, the required length is 670mm.

Hi Dieselman
Firstly Happy New Year
Just wanted to say I did fit the heavy duty belt you recommended and all seems to be well ...no more smoke
Currently going down the Lexia 3 purchase route as the old girl does not want to run properly
Would it be possible for you to send me the wiring diagram for the 30 pin plug so I can ensure the one I purchase to go with the laptop etc actually works
Thanks for all the help
Paul

Series 2 30 pin diagnostic socket. Some options may not apply.
Xm 30 pin diagnostic socket.pdf
I believe all Fenix3 diagnostics can be read using a blink code reader connected to Ecu pin 18, which connects to the 30 pin socket, pin C1. It's possible that slow codes were deleted from later Fenix3, so this would need to be tested.

Strange. As long as you are logged in you should be able to download the PDF file.
