Xm diesel pump leak

Hi all, my diesel pump is leaking at the seam, I imagine the pump is in 2 halves, and I was wondering if one can take the top half off and re seal/gasket it to stop the leak without things going ping all over the place. I don't really want the garage to take the whole lot off and do a mega job at this stage. Any advice appreciated as I know nothing. It's a 2.1 manual.
