Dear Members, greetings from Cyprus!
Happy to join this honorable community. I have just got XM 2.0 manual, 1992. I was a teenager as XM was introduced. I always liked its design and some engineering features.
Let me ask you for advice where can I find this plastic holder of clutch cable (under hood close to clutch fork). I wanted to post pictures but it does not attach because of some reason. Is there any requirements to file format?.
I researched this issue by myself, talked to a guy keeping XM used parts shop in continental Europe (BTW he does not know this part as probably all his XMs are left hand drive). But I did not find anything meaningful.
Thank you in advance,
Serge

Hi Serge, Welcome.
The plastic clutch cable jointer, which do break, is what is known as a Bell-crank, only fitted to Rhd Xm, due to the tight space behind the engine.
The options are really:
A. Be lucky enough to find a cable with one installed. P# for the complete cable is 2150J6, or 2150J8, both for Be3 gearbox. Any Rhd Xm cable will have the part you need.
B. Find an engineering machinist to make one for you. They are made from Acetal, but upgrading to metal is worthwhile.
C. Repair the old part using metal fabricated round it.
It's fairly unusual for the 2.0 petrol to break these as the clutch is lighter, is your clutch still serviceable and all pivots lubricated?
See thread and posts about Bell-cranks. It's worth you reading all the posts linked to as they will give advice on how to easily remove/install the clutch cable.

https://www.club-xm.co.uk/forum/viewtop ... 30#p106122 Please let us know if you can see the images.
Tell us more about your car, I'm assuming it was imported from somewhere else, does it have Hydractive?
Pictures can be attached in pretty well any Img format, just be careful of file size, I think 10Mb is the limit. Alternatively, link to externally hosted ones.
I've just tried an image and it appears we have an issue with attaching those at present, Ill alert Admin.

Hi Dieselman!
Thank you very much for your valuable feedback and highly appreciated advice. I will follow them
I have just bought the car with this clutch cable defect. It appears the car was serviced on a regular basis but I do not know whether clutch pivots were lubricated (I will do it by myself in the nearest days). BYW I managed to temprorarily connect clutch cable with bell crank with soft wire (it lasted just a minute:)) and I can say that the clutch was not easy (maybe due to lack of lubrication).
The car was imported new to Cyprus. I have just bought it from “first hands” (the family owned it from new). By this moment some issues accumulated as it was not in active use last 10 years. But body is quite good due to warm Cyprus climate and garage storage for most part of its life. By this moment some restoration is required (I plan rolling restoration). I was driving it for half an hour on free road without clutch to get home
. It was quite smooth (despite the car was sitting for 2 years without movement due to the clutch issue)
I really appreciate link (works great) to the post how to remove clutch cable (planned for the nearest weekend:)
I will keep you updated!
Best wishes
Serge

PS
The suspension is Hydractive 1. The steering wheel is two spoke (as I understand two spoke steering wheels started from 1992 for some markets)

It sounds like a nice, unmolested later 1992 build car and no rust makes it very worthwhile. How many Xm are there on Cyprus?
From June 1992 the exterior trims became black, from grey, the interior plastics became Hurricane grey, twin spoke steering wheel and H1 with h3 Ecu.
Do you have the Rp number from the Left door A pillar?
The more you do to your car the easier it becomes and if you share that, others can help and learn from you.
The forum is now accepting image uploads again, so feel free to add some of your car and repairs.
In my experience it's better to add images as attachments, as external hosts keep falling away, or having regional blocks imposed, which renders them not viewable.
e.g. You can see the images in the previously linked to thread, but I, even as the creator, cannot...

Thank you very much for your insights and support!
Thank you for clarification on trim specifications available and ECU.
According to AI there up to 15 XMs in Cyprus. I saw occasionally about 3-4 cars in drivable condition for last years.
Yes, I have this code on A-Pillar (will check it and post here).
The only significant modifications by the previous owner are:
1) fully reupholstered leather seats, roof liner and door cards (he changed from grey to black colour). The leather is not of exactly same type as original but high quality). The work was done about ten years ago by a well established and recognised upholsterer in Cyprus. Only the floor remained grey…
2) xenon headlights
I will keep posting here on progress
PS
made some pics on my first driving home couple of days ago (I had to shrink pics as full size did not attach)

Your car looks in really good condition, anyone from UK will be very envious as there is no rust at all and it even appears to have all four jacking points...and no sunroof...Oh là là...
Your images open up to full screen and are large files due to being taken in portrait, as opposed to Landscape, giving more ground and sky, rather than actual car.
I'm not sure whether your car is Meteor grey, (EYY), or Mercury grey (ETW). The paint code should be printed under the cables on the inner wing behind the left headlamp, in front of the air filter housing.
If you paint the window upright glazing bars in satin black, you will have the original "band of glass" look.
The forum paint and trim codes charts have been another victim of regional censorship, but you may be able to see them in this, linked to, thread.
If possible can you please save them and we can organise a method of re-hosting them on the forum server. From storage, I have rebuilt the images in my previously linked to post, but these ones were created by another party and we have no local storage of them.

This is what UK members see. if they are not visible here is a list of Xm paint codes. Was the interior fabric originally in velour and has been changed for leather? Black leather seats normally came with black carpet and headlining.
Also does the car have a dot matrix display each side of the steering wheel, electric seats and rotary automatic cabin temperature and fan speed control? I can see the second rear window so this would make the car similar in spec to the UK "S" level trim. (mid range)
I assume it has A/c, so might have the push-button climate control.
Your car appears to be riding a little high at the front, which is common for Xm that have been laid up but the height selection control left at normal ride height.
Over time, the spring rod deforms and makes the height corrector setting incorrect. I always set mine to low before switching off, if leaving for an extended period of time.
The height should be:
Front; 144 +10 / -7mm from the ground to the flat of the subframe.
Rear; 431 +10 / -7mm from the ground to the rear chassis rail just behind the rear subframe mount.
Measure with the engine running and after manually lifting and holding the body up until it sinks down, then allow it to raise itself to height.
The adjustment is by loosening the clamp on the anti-roll bar and operating the height corrector, then tighten the clamp.
A quick visual check is to imagine a line from the chrome trims in the doors and bumpers, which just meets the top of the wheel rim for the standard 15" wheels.
It's worth reviewing the Citroen training material to understand the Xm hydraulics systems.

Apologies, you are probably going to be a bit overloaded with technical information initially, but will end up with a perfect running Xm. Just let us know how you are getting on and what we can do to help.
Using only basic hand tools, there is nothing you cannot fix yourself on a Citroen Xm.
