Sunroof cassettes

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

They will most likely go as a job lot to citroenxm with ray keeping his for providing the transport.

The mk.1 is an sed john with standard factory citroen roof unit same as all units fitted from 91 onwards. not the aftermarket type fitted to i and si models that also used a completely non standard roof lineing

I beleve the sed originally in 1989 was the only model to get the factory sunroof in the uk making them more compatable with roof linings and casettes.. ..
Agreed,
Having seen this car, I'm sure it has a standard XM sunroof, not the aftermarket type fitted in the UK.

I can only think of two with the aftermarket one, Neils "Goldie" and another, which escapes me at the moment.

Is it the cables or the drive gear. When cables go the roof normally jams.

It did jam up, thankfully closed, and stripped the cog wheel. I opened it up and lubricated everything and put it back together. It ran nicely but slipped a bit and ended up with only fore/aft movement.

I'll point him in the direction of whoever ends up with the sunroofs-- if they want to pass them on

Hi all
I've had the gear assembly apart a couple of times - the gear wheel seems undamaged, though the wave washer had disintegrated, allowing too much free play and probably exacerbating the wear to the drive rack. I've replaced the washer so the gear is now in the correct position, but there are sections of the drive rack that are rusty and worn down, leading to it jumping teeth and getting out of sync with the cam/microswitch as soon as it is operated.
It looks like a factory fit unit, but then I don't know what the aftermarket units look like so could be wrong. Is there a specific thing I can look for that distinguishes the factory fit from the aftermarket units?

Thanks for mentioning it, James

Some of the surplus cassettes should get to Citroenxm in early July.
I will send as many as Ray can fit in and Citroenxm is willing to take.
I do not have the time to test or break and supply individual parts or units.

As already said, it is a factory fit unit made by Webasto-Huliez.

Three easy methods of checking:
Aftermarket fit item is larger glass area, has mirror glass, an aluminium frame edge is visible on the roof top, the substructure is made of steel, the interior light is the smaller trapeziol type.
Factory fir is smaller glass area, has dot screen printed glass, no frame outside, plastic sub structure, larger double interior light.

Not quite every 'G' reg. car Paul as my 12v auto has a factory sunroof! I also thought even early UK 'i' and 'd' spec cars had sunroofs and they were only omitted on late S2?

I think paul is saying that even though early low spec UK cars had sunroofs, they weren't factory fit, they were aftermarket, fitted at Slough. As you say, after a short while all UK cars had factory sunroofs.
