Re: Wheel bolts.....
Hi Paul,
I had a similar way of getting the abs light to go out on a TD Xantia, the light would come on whilst running, I would turn the car off (whilst moving) turn the key round to pre-start, jump start the car, and the abs light would go out! And not come back on again, until whenever it decided to stay on after start up.
I don't know if the ABS worked with the light on, but doing this was able to reset the computer, and clear the fault.

Re: Wheel bolts.....
So, looking at repairing the ABS, and having it work correctly.
Are there any cheap compatible sensors that are used on other cars that are suitable. In earlier Posts, Golf 4 sensors were used to replace Teves sensors.
The resistance of the Bendix Version 2 sensors is 2550 Ohms approx. The teves sensors are near the 1100 Ohms. Is it possible to use a teves or equivalent, but adding a 1400 Ohm resistor before the sensor so that the total resistance is correct. Will this allow the sensor to fucntion properly?

Re: Wheel bolts.....
I'm not convinced that the resistance will be very important at all, other than possibly for the initial open/closed circuit check.
The coil generates an AC voltage which the ECU counts the pulses of. It SHOULD still generate a voltage whatever the resistance (within reason).

Re: Wheel bolts.....
I'm going to buy a pair of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Front-ABS-Sensor- ... 35a6265d54
VAG sensors they're cheap and worh a try.
When I get them, I'll report back with their resitance, incase they are the same as Teves ABS sensors. Hopefully they work ok. The price is definately right!

Re: Wheel bolts.....
Robert, you should probably be able to test them as soon as fitted by simply rotating the wheel by hand and measuring the output voltage.

Re: Wheel bolts.....
Hopefully they will work, its the first check that the ECU might stumble on when it realises that the resitances aren't correct. Its all experimental, we'll see what happens. I hope they work, it will be a nice cheap fix for many of us in the future if it does.

VAG ABS sensors
Hi Folks
The VAG abs sensors arrived today, the resitance measures 1089 Ohms, so they're low for the Bendix 2 compared to the 2550 Ohms for the working sensors on the car. I'll report back if they work Ok in terms of ECU testing and ABS lighting when I fit them, hopwfully I can avoid having to fit resistors to fool the ECU.

Re: Wheel bolts.....
Hi Robert
From memory the early Bendix sensors were around 1100 ohms.
The later type ECU as on your car can work with either type or even mixed installations.
So I doubt that the resistance of your new sensors will prove a problem.

Re: Wheel bolts.....
Excellent John,
That is encouraging. Hopefully I can get the old sensors hoked out easily.

Re: Wheel bolts.....
The three working ones on my car are 1088 1070 and 1182, so this does look promising!
