Re: K21ceo
Well, I used waste veg oil which is all we can legally use without paying tax and it was good stuff. Had to fine filter it but even then it clogs filters as does bio fully treated veg oil but it takes longer. I think there was a filter I didn't see underneath my taxi but it caused me problems and I stopped using cos of the hassle. If I have a refurbishment, it may be able to stand it but after spending money I'm not risking my beloved xm if I get it going right.

I have to say it was waste veg oil I had in.. But I haven't got the space or time to mess about with filtering and treating it..

Re: K21ceo
Thanks for advice and offers from those who 've contacted me 're pump. I 've been quoted 450 for a refurbishment and 300 from someone else for the job, it is a specialist job and I can t do it. I'm gonna check out what else could be wrong first then I'll prob go for refurbishment as has been said worth it if I'm gonna keep. Things, are better after injectors done but engine still turns slowly on start up it will start but white smoke and misfire getting better when warm so I'm concerned about compression. We 'll have to see but it needs putting right. Anybody got ideas?

Re: K21ceo
Glow-plugs all working correctly? Should be getting at least 11v and drawing at least 9A each when operating.
In cold conditions, there should be pre-heat, heat while cranking, and post-heating - duration of the last depending on coolant temperature.
"...but engine still turns slowly on start up..."
Are the main battery connections good? If still the original lead (Pb) lumps, best replaced with new brass clamps.
Poor battery connection could result in both slow cranking and indifferent GP operation.

Hi Chris. Yes replaced glow plugs and believe they 're working ok. I do think there may be a battery issue but the main problem is the misfire and White smoke getting slightly better when it warms up. Unless I compression problems I can't help thinking it's the diesel pump.

A coolant leak into a pot (ie HG issue) can also produce white smoke - burning ethylene glycol.
Check (hot engine) whether the cooling system remains pressurised after the engine has been switched off. If leaking at the HG, pressure will likely ebb away fairly quickly. Also check for bubbles in coolant with engine running.

Re: K21ceo
A diesel doesn't leak coolant into the cylinders, the compression will blow water out of the cooling system.
White smoke will be either low compression, an air leak into the fuel system, or injection timing.

Re: K21ceo
Oh yes, it can. Our BX19RD was a veritable stage fog machine, as glycol coolant found its way into one of the bores across a blown section of HG, burned, and created streetfuls of white fog. The sweet smell at the exhaust confirmed combusted glycol.
The compression stroke will blow out, but the induction stroke won't.

Re: K21ceo
Cheers boys. I don't think it's hg, smoke is heavy smoke, not vapour and it doesn't smell sweet, it smells like engine, I can't tell the difference between oil and diesel but the smoke isn't blue. I think it would be unburnt diesel therefore air or pump timing but I'll get compression done first, engine seems powerful though.
