Re: That 2.1 is back on again
When I saw what appeared to be a good car with the right engine config - 2.1, mechanical pump, manual gearbox, I thought it doesn't make sense shopping around for something scrap that I can swap the engine over from.
So the plan of action is to get it home. Swap over the wheels for the Volvo ones on the turbo, take out my stereo and put the Turbo up for grabs. Sorn the SED, strip the top off the engine. New belts, pump, clutch, turbo service, stage one head and manifold job, get the injectors reconned and work from there.
In the mean time I've got the A170CDI to run around in. Sure the ride's awful but with 120HP it's great to drive.

Ohh,
Were you thinking of doing a diesel conversion on your TCT?

If I read this right then, the red ebay car lives and has it's head fettled and your existing black lpg TCT finds a new home?
You're not thinking of scrapping it Steve, I only called a buyer driving it home without fixing/bypassing the leak
a Muppet BTW!

Re: That 2.1 is back on again
Hi Rob,
Yes the original plan was find a scrap Xantia/XM/406 (plus extra parts) and swap over the TCT to diesel. It became apparent that unless I could get hold of a complete wreck it was going to be costly and in the case of an XM unless it was a complete basket case I wouldn't buy it to strip it. Then when a couple of SEDs came up I began to think again. I like the styling of the Mk1 and the creature comforts. So in the end I've bought one as a long term keeper. Hopefully I can sell the TCT to an enthusiast, it's in really good shape so I'd hate to see it scrapped for the engine or left to rot.
Hi Andy,
I know you were mate, just pulling your leg!
I've have a bit of practice on Citroens now, so maybe it's time to settle down with something a bit 'rarer' XM wise and keep it going. It will make a good contrast to the A170CDI. It's getting to be a routine these days, buy XM spend time plus money on new spheres & multiple flushes, top end rebuild, turbo, spend a week or so fitting the sound system and reversing sensors then sell it. I'm looking forward to seeing what can be done with engine to improve it's efficiency and power.
It's an early start in the morning the train leaves at 5.27am! GSF haven't got a matrix in stock so it'll be a bypass job.

Arrgghh, it's you steelcity..you're to blame...
If you find you don't want it on the way back up, you can drop it at my place...
BTW, it had front brake flexies on the the last MOT advisories, otherwise looks very good.

Hi Steve,
BTW I did follow/read the questions/answers whilst the auction was live, which the seller put up but I didn't put two and two together that one of them was yours but if you'd mention LPG I might of !
XMX
Well done, I hope it does turn out to be just a heater matrix and nothing else but I'm sure if it worse than that, it's in good capable hands after following your 2.5 TD engine/head rebuild (Which you posted on the old forum).steelcityuk wrote:OK I'll admit it, I bought the 2.1 SED in maroon. ...........

Also I wonder who informed the seller that it was NOT wise/okay to drive the car with a burst matrix !E-Bay Seller wrote: Q: Hi Dave? I'm really interested in the XM as a replacement for my current XM 2.0 TCT (which uses too much fuel). I don't suppose that you have a price in mind do you? I won't mess you about, if you ask a price I can afford I can Paypal you the money asap and arrange to collect the car - I'm not expecting a cut price bargain by the way. If you had it advertised elsewhere and I could find the advert I'd try that route. Sorry for being so presumptuous. If you wanted to call me to confirm I'm genuinely interested my number is xxxx xxxxx or send me your number and I'll contact you. Thanks. Steve.
A: Hi Steve, thanks for the interest, but I would rather let the auction run its cause than end it early. Dave.
AnyoneE-Bay Seller wrote: Q: Hi - just to correct an inaccuracy in the last questioner's facts which will mislead potential buyers who could seriously damage the car collecting it - the heater matrix is permanently fed under pressure in the cooling circuit and MUST be renewed or bypassed (though not a good idea when it's 2ºC out there). I've changed loads of these matrixes and if you know what you're doing it should take less than an hour and it's important a high anti-freeze content is used. Check out club-xm.co.uk for advice on these great cars. Nice car, I hope it goes to a good home!!
A: Thanks for the good advice.

Re: That 2.1 is back on again
Hi DM,
I'll keep it in mind as I'm traveling back home. Let's hope I don't decide that, that would be a disappointment. Did you go and have a look at it?
Hi XMX,
I was surprised nobody twigged it but then I have been quiet for a while. I was a bit miffed when he posted up my phone number but even Ebay said that the Q&As couldn't be edited, their only suggestion was to ask for the listing to be pulled which they said they would. I didn't think that was very fair so let it ride. He's promised to put the kettle on so that's a good start.
I wonder if the head gasket has gone or the head cracked if the matrix is leaking that bad?
Could anyone confirm the metal pipe sizes so that I can buy some hose ready for the trip please?
Steve.
