Diesel Pump
Hi all again. It seems none of you know about a leaking diesel pump. Thought I'd try something else. Does anyone know where I can get a reconditioned, it has to be reconditioned for sure, pump so the I can do a direct replacement. It says on it Germany, so I assume it is a Bosch. Help anyone???

Hi Richard,
Not sure whether you have a Bosch or Lucas Roto-Diesel pump, but assuming Bosch, this document might be of help: A rebuild kit is available for each Bosch pump, which contains all the seals, gaskets etc.
Coincidentally, I have a leak on ours right now, and have decided not to attempt a pump strip-down myself.
Some of the pumps do indeed contain pingf*ckits.
A Bosch diesel specialist should be able to provide an exchange pump (already refurbished), or refurb yours (if removed from the car).
Take a note of the exact model of the pump, and make some local enquiries, or via Bosch's website.
Others here know the 2.1 pump(s) better than I do, so likely someone will have some more detailed advice.
Doesn't usually take more than a day or two for this sort of thing to be picked up.

The pump will be a Bosch, if mechanical, Lucas Epic, if electrical.
The two are vastly different, hence the lack of responses.
Any pump can have new seals fitted, but whether the repair can be done in situ depends on where the leak is from.

Hi, yes thanks, it is a Bosch mechanical pump, now we know that, anymore responses?

So you didn't bother to download the Bosch booklet. Maybe you already had a copy?
It actually tells you a lot about the internals of the various Bosch models, and the positions of each of the seals.
You'll need to identify the exact model of the pump, and make a decision whether to open it up or not.
General advice is not to tackle this job unless your are very confident, but to leave it to a diesel specialist workshop.
The top covers of most of these pumps are straightforward to lift off (if the top rectangular seal is weeping), but further dismantling is more complicated, and may need the pump removing, and re-timing when refitted.

Thanks, well a local guy has told me the pump has to come off to be done and tested so I guess I have my answer, of course I ll have to pay for the re furbish and for another mechanic to take the pump off, re install and change the cam belt. Money. If I could I d do it myself in situ, but another local mechanic told me even he is not brave enough to do it, so what chance me? May end up finding another one when I find the pump details.

I am in the same position here - leaky pump needing a rebuild, and removing the pump involves the fairly dreadful job of having to remove (and properly refit) three belts in a confined space.
My local diesel specialist would rebuild my pump, or provide another re-built, at a cost of €350 . . . but requires the pump to be removed, which they will not undertake.
Decision here is to let Citroen do the whole job (including fitting the/a refurbed pump), which will be a warranted repair. Expecting a bill of around €800 all in. Citroen here know the car, new belts were only fitted (by them) in 2018, and work to a high standard. Expensive, but...

You can replace the boost pressure diaphragm, the fuel enrichment screw seal and the metering head seal, in situ.
Other than that, it's pump off time.
We try to help, but crystal ball gazing isn't our strong point.
We don't have any information on where the leak is from.
I've gone back through your posts and take it the car is the '92 2.1td, in which case it is definitely the Bosch pump.
You said that the engine has a misfire, possibly pump related, if so more investigation is required.
The only external leak I can think of that would cause a misfire would be a delivery valve.
Missing could be a broken spring, or poorly squirting injector.
Other than that, it's pump off time.

No Sir, you are probably looking at my other XM. I don't have a misfire, the leak seems to be from the gasket which separates the two halves of the pump horizontally. But it is a 93 and a Bosch we believe. My local guy tells me it has to come off to do this. Imagine he will charge 2 or 300 plus then take off and put on and the cam belt, at least 300 so probably looking at 5, 6 or 7. The car runs well so if I can stop the leak for now I will be happy, I'm looking at ways to do that.

Post a photo of the pump and its leak if you can.
That will give those who know the ability to identify the pump type and then give specific advice about fixing the leak.
