Only working with a direct feed to it from the battery.....so some ignition problem going on which I will sort after I get it (with help and luck) started.

Make sure that the transmission is actually in Park before attempting to start...

Immobiliser unlocks stop solinoid. Alisdair said he has fuel at the injectors but is going to double check..

Key pad immobiliser is unplugged and has been for years apparently....the code is unknown (can I dig it out of the ECU via LEXIA ?)
Yes, tried in Park & N.......that said, batteries were low so they spent the night on the charger.
Will crack the injector pipes to check they are priming......will go over all connections today and buy some "magic spray" (contact cleaner) to assist first start if required.

I now know you cannot find the code via LEXIA
That I should
Glow plug pre-heat 3-5 times prior to start.....repeat 2/3 times per cranking session
Check 12v at glow plugs
Crack injector line to check fuel supply and that the pump is unlocking.

No, you cannot use the Lexia to source the immo code.
Do NOT plug the connector back in to the keypad under any circumstances.
Doing that and turning the ignition on, even just once, resets the ECU to needing the unknown code.
Expensive ECU reset by a specialist is then the only way out unless you can source another ECU with known code.
Lucas EPIC and 2.5TD Bosch ECU's are known to malfunction and lock up with low battery volts.
My experience is that you can waste a lot of time this way.
These days I stick a fully charged battery on each time I work on a non starting 2.5TD.

3 batteries have been on charge overnight 
I note the point (I have known this due to my XANTIA) about the keypad.....I personally would always remove them from the car and will be adding a cup holder in its place

Did a "little" work in the time I grabbed today.......I cracked an injector bolt, from what I can tell I have no fuel at the injectors.

With the injector pipes slackened, while cranking the engine, rapidly and repeatedly press/squeeze the fuel priming button/bulb, to push fuel into the injector pump. See whether anything emerges from the injector pipes.
The injector pump requires a good supply of non-aerated fuel to operate, and is not good at handling any sort of airlock.
