replacing a fuse has made the sunroof work really well..................ohhh crap

Has the glass to frame bond failed?

From memory, you cant remove the wind deflector without removing the complete cassette from the roof. The screw at the front is under the roof skin.

Slightly easier than a head gasket job...

I've never worked out why Xm sunroofs leak so readily, it's a Webasto-Huliez cassette and very similar to ones fitted to other Psa products and other marques, none of which seem to leak.
Their incidence of leakage also appears random...torrential rain, no problem, general light rain...drip, drip, drip.

Yes, the silver lining is the roof works very smoothly and strong in all functions and closes accurately.

The reason I wish to remove the glass is I have this going on (nicked from another thread but in the same place) as well as shown on the wind deflector "wing" together with some appearing on its arms and hinges.



I know the Xantia one does not fit but is the design exactly the same ?......I have a complete Xantia cassette hanging on my wall as a spare for my ACTIVA v.6 and could use that to check/practice on.

I had exactly the same, but holes were small, and patchable-up with epoxy filler and painting.
Have you got a new rubber edge seal? Think they went NFP a few years back.
Used black PU adhesive under the outer lip (on to the glass) to ensure water didn't creep under.

I do not have a new seal, I am looking to see where one can be obtained from. Am I correct in thinking these are Webasto Roof Systems sunroofs ?

It does look to me like (everything can be) a fix with new sections needing welding in is the only way to reuse this glass/frame.

I'll do a search for rubber surround.
When refurbing the steel periphery, take note of the way it needs to fit into the slot in the rubber. Lumps and thickened bits will cause problems.

Yes, lumps will spoil the seal fit....hence why I think this is a welding job only, I do not think resin will hold together being so thin in section on the larger holes. Best to try hard to find a good replacement in this case I think.

Not getting anywhere immediately useful on the roof rubber seal
OE is 8402.28, NFP, and fitted only to XM and XMII (and presumably Pug.605).

Roof unit is Webasto, so maybe they can help.

Lots of 8402.xx on the web, and on Cit. Parts too, for over a dozen cars, Berlingo...C1-8, Aircross and lots more.
Obviously a "sunroof rubber" prefix.

8402.46 and 8402.48 shown available, at €110.20 each (Joint de toit ouvrant)

Any of these might be the right profile for the XM, but length not known.
The new ones come as a straight strip, which you fit round panel, trim off the small amount of extra, and superglue the ends together (at rear centre).
My new one was a very snug fit, and I had to tease it into the roof opening to avoid stressing the mechanism. They compress with age.

Afaik, seals aren't available, but I don't think its worth replacing it anyway.
That seal is designed to allow water past and down into the cassette unit, where it then drains away.

The whole concept of a hole in a roof that allows water to enter, but be drained away, is always going to cause problems.

As well as reduced headroom, increased dampness in the car, the risk of leaks, rattles and wind noise, the roof will eventually rust inside.

An Xm without a sunroof even looks better.

As I have a hole in my roof I think I am stuck with it

I understand the seals are designed to just stop wind noise and excessive water ingress but allow "moisture" and drips to drain

I have contacted Webesto to see if they still have the seals....as for Pieces de Rechange, L'Aventure @ €110.20....how do you say "Stick it up your backside you [flipping] rip off merchants" in French ?


I have a "temporary plan" that involves the use of PU adhesive and a speedy fit of the seal and then the glass/frame to the car before the sealant is dry to allow the seal to compress into its space when the sunroof is closed (to closed/sealed position).......watch this space !
