That's a shame, I haven't really had a rust problem with any of mine apart from the edges of the rear wings. No I lie, my sons needed welding last year because I don't see it often enough and had not oiled the underneath lately but it has done nearly 300k miles.

The most worrying rusty area I saw was apparent delamination of the front subframe underside behind the dreaded undertray. The n/s strut top dome is rusting under the rubber but might be recoverable if stripped, treated and painted to halt further corrosion. On a more positive note the engine certainly ran in fine fettle.

A promptly applied good coat of oil will stop it getting any worse Ken. I give the underneath of mine a good spray every year and pour about 1/4 pint in each sill, it creeps everywhere. I haven't even had a hydraulic pipe go since I have been doing that.

I had the same problem on my daily 2.1 TD. I removed the old plates, and welded new 3mm plate over the top again.

No, I wasn't the winning bidder: £450 was my top whack and given the apparent seriousness of the rust in addition to everything else, I don't regret it. Wonder who got it?
