Free XM 2.1td Nr. Uttoxeter

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Ah that's encouraging that it's a bosch pump not a lucas EPIC. So does it have an immobiliser anyway? And is this controlled with a remote key as he mentions it has an alarm but he's never used it so maybe this is the problem if he is just using the key to unlock the doors manually.

My 2.5 has a bosch pump but still has that new fangled keypad!

the 2.1s have an alarm/immobiliser, which can be switched off using the key in a slot in the front slam panel/x-member

The key switch does not switch off the alarm it just isolates the siren leaving the alarm working and headlight flashing.
During the 1996 model years production all XM types got the keypad immobiliser but with a staged cut over.
Actual cut over date depended on spec and production line.
2.1 XM's were complicated by the change to the BTE engine and the EPIC pump.
These latter two items were restricted to the Autobox 2.1's for the year while the Manuals produced got ATE engines and BOSCH pumps.
EPIC Immobiliser was easy as the engine ECU contains the operating code just like the earlier BOSCH 2.5 ECU.
Bosch ATE immobiliser was a redesign and only a few XM's appeared like this late in the model year.
Think Peter can confirm that one of his Bosch 2.1's came with immobiliser while the resr were without.

If it's a Bosh pump, connect the fuel shut-off solenoid to the battery with a wire then turn the engine over and it should start.

This car will run... ;)

Went to see the car today, its a M reg, series 2 I think.

I brought a fully charged battery with me and with two sets of jump leads hooked up to Steve's friend's Range Rover we tried to start it, it would turn over very slowly but would not start. After trying various things we decided to tow it with the Range Rover and bump start it, it was difficult towing it off the field as it was lowered, felt a few scrapes and bumps before we managed to tow it onto the road, after a short tow and a bump start it fired up. Brakes and power steering worked, left it running for it a bit and it rised to normal height, I turned it around to go back and brakes were still working when I stopped the car. Coolant was low so topped up.

Car will now stop and start easily but had LHM fluid pouring out near the front below the battery and behind the rear nearside wheel, started losing height again, no brakes and power steering. I think we may have damaged something when we towed it over the grass when it was in lowered state?

We parked it up and agreed to collect the car tomorrow, went to a nearby cafe for some breakfast and to ponder how to get the car back when we noticed a garage with a car transporter next door, went over and negotiated a price of £80 to take the car over to Chris's (my friend who is having the car) over in Barrow upon Soar.

The car does look like it needs a LOT of TLC to get it back to daily use. I think Steve's friend mentioned it had been standing 5 or 6 years. Certainly needs a good scrub to get all the veg growing on it! :) Its a SX so quite a base model in comparison, no info matrix or trip computer, no aircon. But less things to go wrong I guess. I think the heater matrix was faulty so has been bypassed and at some point had some auxiliary heating source. A dreaded dashboard removal for heat matrix replacement I believe. OS headlamp has a chip in it but don't know whether that would be MOT failure. No rear separation glass or parcel shelf, don't know whether the SX ever had one.

Hopefully will be able to get any parts from the S1.5 dieselman is breaking (I'll send you a PM later)

No need to remove the dash to get the heater matrix out. Search on here for a tutorial.

SXs didn't get the additional inner screen either.

Hi.

PM replied to, I have the bits you need, such as parcel shelf, rear screen, brackets and trim. I'm just about to pull the engine and box out of this car and am removing hydraulic pipes, so if you do need one then I should have one.

As long as the car isn't rotten, it's a goe-er. The one I'm breaking has more holes than a colander, just found the o/s inner wing is rotten through.

The heater matrix can be replaced with dash in situ.

Yes the heater matrix is a 20 minute job, it will take you longer to go and get the bits than to do the job iitself. Your thinking of the xantia

Got the car back to Barrow, pics below of it in the driveway before we jet-washed it. It seems fine underneath, sills don't appear rotten. Strut tops don't look too healthy though in my opinion. There's lots of exhaust smoke coming from the engine I think manifold may have been damaged when it was dragged across the field.

It looks much better now its been pressure washed, will upload some pics later. First thing to deal with is the LHM leaks, it's a bit beyond our ability so will need some outside help.
