Wow Chris the XM is looking awesome :)

You will have to show me how the reversing light cover panel comes off, the one on Paul's looks like its faded somewhat. It looks like the later ones are the same, just would need to swap the tail badge over.

I know you have a host of older Citroens in your fleet, but i love the series 1 XM shape so much id just want to keep improving it and keep it. Im sure i read somewhere that there are less than 350 XM's on the roads now....might be wrong :P

Beautiful :D

About 900 Xm on the road, approx 180 of those being Series 1 cars.

Its looking much better after your help on Sunday 8-) Once I get my own polisher it'll hopefully be improved

The panel is very easy to remove, pop off the boot trim and undo three or four screws. It would be interesting if you did find a way to restor them back to black, as you suggested, tinting might be a good idea.

I do really like the XM but I can't see it as a long term car. Out of this and my Activa, its the Activa which really is my pride and joy. I hope to keep that very long term, though im enjoying using and improving this Prestige XM, its a pretty special car. Or should I just sell the C5, use the Prestige daily and keep the Activa as my hobby car, hmm, its a thought!

A few pictures of my XM after a bit of a go with a machine polisher:

Its improving, I doubt its previous owner would recognise the car now. Though its paintwork is a long way frm being close to perfect, it is looking much better and a much deeper black this a shine to it.

It is beginning to look quite tidy.

I would probably sell the C5 as it does nothing for me as a car and ties up cash.

Looks stunning. How easy was it to replace the chrome trims. I've got some Brian Primmer ones waiting to go on.

They are a bit fiddly to do, but well worthwhile. Be very careful to apply enough mastic and not bend the trim at all, then tape down with masking tape until dry.

The idea is to fit one end then slide the trim to get the other end in, then centre it.

Ok thanks. Do the old ones just unclip? I'm not sure who, but someone did talk me through the process at the X rally, and they mentioned using "tiger sealant". M

The original ones do just unclip. Any sticky mastic will do, I think I used Sikaflex.
