Headlamp washer

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Headlamp washer

Post by zaphod » Sun Dec 30, 2012 4:24 pm

Hi I am after the passenger side (for an RHD car, drviers side on LHD!) headlight washer, not the cover, the bit with the 2 jets, as one half of the ball socket that one of the 'balls' sits in is broken off on the VSX and this has now become an MOT fail :(

Really? MOT failure because the headlight washers don't work?

That is ridiculous surely? I can't believe this, can't you go to another MOT centre?

Actually, in theory, if you have a HID conversion then the self-levelling and headlamp washing functions must be in working order...

So yes, thinking about it and with a VERY picky MOT man then a failure is possible but not if you don't run HID headlamps which technically are illegal anyway in an XM with standard headlamps...

Anyone know if the 'guts' of the washers are the same as a Xantia?

They might well have come from me Paul. I once had some headlamp washer guts from a Xantia...

I know this is weird but I was dreaming about this very topic last night. I do have very vivid and bizarre dreams as part of my affliction; often several times a night  Not always are they XM related though...

Anyway, in the dream I was having a chat with my MOT tester about this and he assured me it was OK and he wouldn't fail a car for having duff headlamp washers...

Surely if they are not fitted they cannot b tested. Disconnect the pipe to them and cover them in Gaffa tape for the mot.

I want them working! but yes this has become an MOT fail, the missing covers arn't. Any failure indicator bulb lit is also now a fail, such as Airbag, 'K' light etc regardless of what the emisions or anything else it

Yes, that right, VIOSA have gone completely barmy with the latest MOT regs and thrown common sense to the four winds...

Trouble is, there's a big common sense shortage all over the place these days
