My new XM
Hi- Its been a while now but I finally found a car, not any old car but a nice looking xm 2.1td exclusive- 100k well serviced and refurbed by a member here just over a year ago...
drove it back home, 4 hrs across windy rainy mountain passes, along empty motorways, through freezing fog and icy country roads, and finally up my potholed lane (just your typical days driving in ireland!). lovely journey home really apart from a few little bits (more of which you'll hear about below!)
so having been through all manner of driving conditions i'm pretty clear on the issues witht he car (there are a few), but (since it's my first xm) might need some help diagnosing before I find a mechanic to help me sort them (and your help in this regard would be most appreciated!):
- dripping lhm from drivers side front wheel arch. can't see where it's coming from exactly, somewhere behind the panel (i.e. somewhere underneath the wiper/washer reservoir filling point)...i noticed by the time i got home that car is about 2/3 inches lower on that side...otherwise suspension goes up and down fine, rides good in sport/normal, green lhm...
- main interior light (and two in the back) switch on and off randomly while driving (sometimes for 1 minute, sometimes for 10)...not as in flashing on and off, but just gently reminding me that i've bought an idiosyncratic french car with an early 90's electronics controlling it
- all the matrix displays no good...
- heater warms up initially, then cools off after about 20 minutes driving...this is going to drive the the woman mad
Other than that it's great to be back in an XM! It reminded me of my youth, when my grandfather had an XM. Heres a story for you: he bought the first Xm in Ireland from a dealer in Dublin...he was given a bunch of flowers, they took photos of him with it, possibly even champagne bottle to celebrate (drink driving laws werent so strict back then). And there he was, driving this lovely, high speed, leather and wood trim, electronic pinnacle of french car design wizardy and guess what? it broke down on the way home! (something with the electronics as far as i remember)...from that moment on it never spent longer than a few months out of the garage- so you'd think i'd know better than to buy an xm!

Re: My new XM
Nice one! Another 2.1 td in Ireland! I keep thinking I'm the only i.....t
but hey no, go for it! Hope you sort the issues out soon. I thought XM's were never sold in Ireland?
As for your issues I can't say, matrixes can be fixed I think. Interior light....try all the connections in the doors and spray with some good stuff, might help? LHM leak needs to be sorted of course, you'll have to have good look where it's coming from. I bet it's a return pipe somewhere close to your LHM tank? Did you see any wetness there?
Wish you good luck with it!

Re: My new XM
There is a good chance that the LHM drip is from the Brake valve in the drivers side of the front scuttle.
Drips down the large drain hole under the washer filler.
Common failure problem, often only the rubber end cap perished which is replacable.

Re: My new XM
I agree about the LHM leak being the doseur valve.

Re: My new XM
That was quite good timing Matthew....it being of the road. At least you can fix it at your leisure.
So asking a stupid question, where do you go to get new rubber buttons.....Citroen, GSF?
Just preparing incase!

Citroen are the cheapest supplier for doseur valve buttons.
