Was the purchaser a budgie club member?
Mr Freebourn used to do special deals for them.

Ahh. Sorry. Before the V6 and Activa were even thought of... Quite pricey for 1992 then... Considering I paid £66,000 for a big 4 bedroomed detached house in 1994 so in today's money that would make the XM around £100,000 I would imagine. Yikes!

I just found my old Autocar mag from 1995, a 3.0 V6 Exclusive auto was selling for £28,590.
2.1 exclusive auto £25,565. Both prices are for hatches. So that gives you a little idea of what the mk2 were selling for, 3 yrs. later.

As I expected..getting on for 30k in the early 90s....fair amount.

Going back to the mk2 prices and rivals, it's up there with BMW and MERC prices. With similar engines and specs. The Rover 800 sterling for exampe was £29,995.

But Renault undercut, not surprisingly, with the top of the range Safrane, which for the V6, cost £26,940.
Peugeot 605 V6 £27,375 ...XM's sister car.

All in the same sort of ball park.

We've had a lovely day up here int' north today. Managed to get the 2CV given a short run out to fill up and do tyre pressures before a prospective purchaser comes to loook at it on Monday; and then I was able to give the XM a good clean ready for a long run next week.

I reckon at some point in its extensive history it has had the driver side chrome trims replaced as they look really good but the same can not be said for the passenger side trims, in fact the one on the front wing appears to have been painted at some point to try and improve it - it didn't! Fortunately when I had the trims done on my V6 I kept the best old ones and was able to cut down one to replace the really manky one and I was able to replace the one for the rear door, so it looks a lot better now.
