Maybe some body in the past changed the belt and forgot to tighten it, can't see that bolt go loose on it's own. Interesting to see how you get on with the hissing problem.

The front seats have been out on that car, I believe, certainly the drivers seat base has been swapped as the original one had frayed stitching.

All this is a bit surprising on a low mileage car and gently comforts me that even though you paid a reasonable price there are things to attend to. I suspect your expenditure is now as high as mine is on the mandarin car.

The expenditure for parts has been dominated by the tyres as all other things have been diy such as the plugs and timing belt etc z, no the expenditure its still to come believe!

Good news though, I just got back in after removing and working on the FDV and the thing is working a loot better now; only hisses every so often and when it does it stops on its own without revs or steering. I knew the spring was something to do with it. I'll outline this over on the hydraulic section.

While underneath I had a look at the parking brake cables to investigate the snapped left hand cable, as was suggested it appears that it has actually come out from the lever and not snapped at all. Will investigate further soon.

Karma!
No sooner do I sort out one noise (the FDV valve) than it's replaced by another… the exhaust back box seems to have moved sideways a bit as it's now rattling through the body and is a right pain

Thanks Jim.

Speaking of seats, how are the lower cushions / squabs removed?

There are 2 clips that hold them to the seat frame at the very front of the seat. Unclip them back and the seat bottom part lifts up and pulls forward. All pretty handy and straight forward.

Great Robert, hopefully will make access to the seatbelt anchor easier.

If thats what you are trying to do you are wasting your time. You need to lift the seat out of its mountings, remove the plastic trim on the side of the seat to get to where the belt mounts the seat frame.
