Now there is a thought....go and see!
So there are more. How many is left is not that accurate is it.
147....rare to begin with. thought it might be around that number. ....and a shame so many have been lost.
Even more reason then Paul to get yours back on the road!

I was wondering why the V6-24v seem to rust worse than others even at relatively low mileage...then reading that it was David's fathers car explained it. Scotland being snowy.
I could be tempted by this car, but am bothered it is a rusty basket case underneath.
How ironic would it be if the seller has bought David's other v6-24v.

My best series 1 XMs were from Devon and Cornwall - no salt on the roads there. The 1990 SD I have now is a sea side car, great shell, but the inside door bottoms aren't as good.

Must be underseal ingredients...or possibly could it be down to the salt concentration those councils use or used. Being more north does tend to be colder and more prone to snow and ice.....then again it is probably simply down to age.

They all have rust patches.
Just a bit slower because of the extensive use of galvanised steel.
That also makes rusting locations and rates a bit more unpredictable.
Most of the rusting starts inside the hollow sections where condensation forms and is retained.
Bit of salt in the air can speed things up but not essential.
When the rust breaks through the outer cills then patching is usually only half a job.
Chances are the lower part of the inner cill sections will be well gone too.
Crumpled jacking points are often a sign that the inner cill is well corroded.
Experienced XM owners never use the jacking points.
We need to get used to a bit of chassis welding as the supply of rust free XM's is a myth.
I am investing in a sky hook so I can turn an XM on its side and weld in comfort.

Sea air and rotting cars is a myth, but cars from Northern climes do suffer due to greater rainfall and greater use of salt in Winter.
