Well, it's been another week of no XMing due to crappy winter.

About all I have been doing, that is in any way car related, is giving further thought to the "what shall I get next" dilemma - no the XM isn't in danger - it is all to do with having nearly 5k tied up in a three year old Hyundai that seems to get most of its driving done by folks about the same age as the XM. I had another one of my long and convoluted conversations with Admiral on Friday and discovered that it is actually cheaper by £75 to insure the kids on the Boss's Multipla! Unfortunately, she is not really keen on this idea as she thinks it will be too big for them to be comfortable driving as none of them have much experience.

As a consequence, if the i10 goes as I want it to, I shall need to replace it with something else cheap to run and insure. Plan a) has involved looking at various C4s that tick all the boxes but cost about £2.5 to £3k. Having said that, a Megane Fidji Coupe 1.4 has come up for sale very locally to me and so I am going to have a look at that.

It is likely to cost me about £800 which is quite manageable and would leave me plenty for XM improvements or the purchase of something else a lot more interesting  I still think just keeping the Multipla for everyone else while I tool about in a BX16v/GTI or a ZX Volcane or something similar is the way to go... Trouble is, I only want a really good one and there don't seem to be many or any about that fit the bill at the moment.

All other cars being unavailable, I had to take the XM out today for a brief run on roads so salty they look like they have snow on them. I do hope the weather is better for the long run down to the "X Rally" in 10 days' time.

I've also bought another car today...

It is French but not Citroen; small but not a hatchback; two doors and 16 valves and well under a grand.

I shall take delivery tomorrow - from an address less than a quarter of a mile away - and will post pics at the week end for those who might have had a guess.

What this really means is that once the Korean has gone there will be funds available for either a sporty BX or ZX for me to enjoy alongside the long distance cruiser. :D

Long term weather forecast is looking favourable Rob - bright blue skies here today and only about 30 miles away... ;)

That's easy:) It's a Renault! And if not, it's definitely a Peugeot. And it won't be as much fun as that 2cv :)

You're just too quick Russ!

Picked it up this evening and had a quick buzz about in it. Seems ok but it is far too small for me! First issues don't seem too alarming: it starts well from cold but wants to run at too high a tickover until it warms up, then it is fine. One of the seats is excessively squeaky - probably the one I'm sitting on - and the reversing light is out.

It goes well and has a good selection of toys, I wonder if it will ever get warm enough to find out that the air-con does or doesn't work?

Anyway, the i10 is now advertised and as soon as there is a space on the driveway I have been told I can go shopping for something to go with the XM - YES!

A friend of mines partner had a Megane coupe and a neighbour has a cabriolet. In reality both have been good cars, the first suffering timing belt failure and the second a failed ECU, but otherwise completely reliable.
The timing belt failure just needed about six new valves, gasket, water pump and belt and was good to go, the other one a new ECU.

Sunshine!!

It might still be very cold but at least the sun is shining today, and so I have had a morning pottering and cleaning the XM. I spent yesterday cleaning the Hyundai as I had an enquiry from a chap who said he would come today, but of course he hasn't; still it is clean and in the garage ready.

I think she looks pretty good today :D

By the time she gets to Burghley I expect it will be very different.

It looks great and makes me think I should battle the snow flurries to polish mine.
