This heating cooling anomaly continues to puzzle me.

I have cleaned up the sensor/fan and that seems to be working ok, at least I can hear it spinning. I took the car out for a run of about 20 minutes this afternoon and the temp gauge sat below 70 while we were moving and then rose to just under 80 when stationary. Even with the heater set to max the vents blew cold air into the cabin.

On a different subject, me and my bidding finger battled temptation this morning. I came very very close to buying this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161006016594? ... 1423.l2649

It looks gorgeous, but isn't really what I want (to go with the XM) and so after it was all over I was pleased not to have got into a sniping war ended up with what seems to be a very oddball model. If it had been close enough for me to have gone and had a good look at it beforehand then it might have been a different matter.

I think what I am looking for is one of the following: BX GTI, BX 16 valve, ZX 16 valve or ZX volcane (petrol or diesel). Cars of exceptional quality (but within budget) that could tempt me away from the chevrons would be a Renault 4 or 5.

Rob, I can see why you were tempted. A Gentry......That is cheap too. Seen others for sale at least double that.

I'd love a Gentry. Years back I was a very keen owner of several 205s (including a 205GTi) and always admired the Gentry for it's laid-back take on a bit of luxury in a small car.

I believe they were a failed Japanese export order and very much tailored to the Japanese taste in things - a luxury kei car almost but in the end they didn't want them so they were disposed of in the UK. They had a 1.9GTi engine, a little detuned, driving a 4HP14 autobox..

That is a very reasonable price for any decent 205, let alone a Gentry...

The XM has been in at a local independent to investigate the heating and cooling issues I mentioned above. The upshot is that they are replacing the thermostat this afternoon and that should encourage the car to run at the right temperature; the other issue is to do with hte heater, it seems the temperature control motor is jiggered and needs replacing. If these are availble new they are very expensive I am told. Can anyone help me out with a replacement unit? Please??

I am told the part number is: 644764

The temperature in mine went from 80-110 on journeys before I changed the stat and rusty water in the system. Now gets up to temp and sits bang on 90. Maybe slightly higher in this hot weather at low speeds. Hopefully that will help at least. Good luck with the motor, can it not be removed and stripped down/repaired?

Rob, your heater motor...

I have a feeling those might be repairable. Fancy I've seen something but really can't recall for the life of me now....

Perhaps someone else will know or remember...

That is an interesting document Will. Wish I had better skills to be able to make real use of it. :(

The pics show the operation on a left hand drive car, have you fiddled with one of these on a RHD car at all? Is it easier to get at?

Thanks for the help.

Thermostat now done and at least the engine seems to sit at the right sort of temperature now, even if the cabin stays cold.

Still in need of the heater control motor which I have also seen labelled as "heater flap servo".
