Re: XM parts availability
Just a quick question - will the sidelights from a Series 1 XM really fit a Series 2? Been talking to several Ebay parts retailers with Mk1 sidelights and they've said no it won't.
I'd rather defer to the superior knowledge of this forum.

Re: XM parts availability
Theres Another mis confused thing on XM's..
Left hand displays DO NOT fail on S1 cars. Im yet to see one, unless its been physically destroyed. However S2 displays do loose the pixels on the displays. There are fixtures for the job, and no S1 displays DO NOT work directly on S2 cars, all the Pin outs are all changed..
I noticed the the Recent XM V's CX article, was it in Pratical Classics last month? Ive got it some where, they tested a S1 car but said that Left hand displays fail on some cars. However they didn't seperate the S1 to S2 issue..

Re: XM parts availability
From a commercial point of view it´s narrow minded. By making it possible to keep their old cars on the road they signal their cars are good and can endure. Mercedes have a reputation for endurance based on the existence of so many older models driven regularly as single-cars. For those buying new it´s a sign they are making a good investment. It boosts resale value and means first time buyers will pay the list price. Citroen lose money every time they discount. And they discount because the new buyer knows the second buyer will want a low price. This expectation comes because the second and third (and so on) buyers all know they are buying a riskier car. So, if your old cars hold value then the new price stays firm. Citroen are in this and other regards, a pretty crap company. I love their old cars but loathe their new ones and loathe them for making it hard to keep my XM going.
