Last saturday mornings antics! (been ill and busy at work this week, hence not writing it sunday!)
Tools at the ready!
However, the hesitant voice in me realised that I'd driven about 50 miles before pulling up on the drive, and dumping the fluid out may be a stupid thing to do, so opened the bonnet to speed up the process, and pulled the a-pillar trim out of the boot where it's been since the sunroof episode
Cleaned it up and applied trim gel to see how it looks
I then saw the vent seal in the ashtray, so grabbed the other one, and cleaned them up too (engine was still hotter than the sun)

then tried to get the stupid feckers back on. I swear the dashboard has to be loose to do it. Gave up after 20 minutes, so their hanging on in there, and not fallen off yet
(put the car in high when I parked), so finally got on the floor and undid the very accommodating filter cover with my oil catch pan carefully placed underneath
and the whole lot dumped itself out, backing the drain can up as the 5mm hole couldn't cope, and pissing a good 2 litres all over the drive, which luckily is gravel and a bit manky anyway, but was told monday to rake it over, which helped a bit
The fluid came out black, but the right amount came out, and the filter was very clean
All rinsed out in petrol, and looking rather nice and shiney
I did find these in the filter though, no idea what they snapped off from but everythings still working fine so gonna ignore it and pretend I never saw it
I then got my new toy out, which made refilling fairly easy. Drew about half a litre at a time, but was quicker than me trying to find something to bodge together as a funnel. Did get a fair dribble everywhere though
I thought this said Made in Hunger at first
Turned her on, went up and down the gears, topped up and drove over to Maidenhead, during which time the gearchange smoothed up no end! I then dumped the car at a mates, and had 10 of these through the course of the day (finished at 2)
was very very ill. (Mental note, stick to ale next time)
I have enough ATF left, so in 1800 miles (2k), I'll re-flush it when I re-flush the LHM system.
So, good jobs ticked off:
Oil Change
Coolant Change (although the coolant is oily again)
LHM drain and Flush added
Gearbox oil changed
Brakes bled
Still to do:
New tyres (either all round or rear only, depending on pay-cheque)
Tracking and balancing (if the tyre change doesn't sort that out)
I also noticed (for the experts here!), that the suspension is in what I would describe as hard mode. The front softens up occasionally, and absorbs a bump that I then feel very much through the rear, but the rear is always hard. I feel every little crack, bump and drain cover in the road, the ZX had a softer ride. Doing the bounce test, the front is all bobbly when 'on', and hardens up when 'off', but the rear seems to be hard all the time. If I sit in the boot, it lowers right down to the stops, then comes nicely back up again. Hoping it's related to the sport symbol not flashing, and the whole thing needs a good punch in the face with a lexia, if not any ideas?
Averaging 27.8mpg now! My immediate Portuguese colleague thinks I'm odd for being happy about that! I answer back by talking about the blocked plenum chamber on his pisshat, which he doesn't understand and so shuts up
