Dropped "MOReen" off at my independent this morning for cam belt and water pump replacement along with the need to sort an oil leak and knackered gaiter prior to MOT. Hope everything will be sorted by the end of the week. I hope the fact that they aren't in a rush to do the jobs means the following:
* the boss is goping to do most of the work
* it'll be done well
* it'll be done "cheap" well, at least affordable

We shall see.

The loan car he has given me is a Xsara, which is ok but needs to use a lot of revs to maintain momentum. On the downside, it has more stickers on it than a boy racer's Subaru - the upside is that it actually has some petrol in it - a first!!

That is Rob! Almost unknown in my experience. All dealers seem to have a special talent for running a car on fumes...

Hope all three promises are kept...

Still no news on MOReen, but I have gone out and bought a new/different runabout today :-) Should pick it up on Friday.

Anyone want to buy a Megane Coupe 1.4? Tax Sept? Test Jan? £750.00?

Thought not :-(

New ticket has been achieved with an advisory for a slightly worn tyre which I knew about and a slight exhaust leak from the centre section which I didn't know about. The cam belt and water pupmp are replaced along with a CV boot, but the slight oil drip I was hoping to get sorted isn't; apparently it is coming from somewhere between the sump and gearbox and further investigation would involve very major surgery. Having paid out the very big sum I have done today, that won't be happening any time soon.

Feeling somewhat peed off really :(

But it is still lovely to drive and apart from the leak everything else is do-able and not too expensive. I was hoping to spend my little bit of income from doing some exam invigilating on the paint work, but that will have to wait until finances have recovered a bit.

Interesting Rob. Mine is doing this too. It is nothing like the drip I had with the crank seal, that was very obvious, but it is moist around that same area as yours is. I did think it might be the sump gasket seal possibly weeping a tiny bit. But who knows. As you say, it's a bit involved to find what is causing it.
It was dripping a bit from the sump plug, hence why I thought it might be that, but it isn't. :(

Anyway, good to hear its only got minor advisories and passed its MOT.

Lovely summer's day today; too hot to sit in our south facing enclosed rear garden this afternoon - lovely.

4 cars in the family at the moment, all fitted with air con but only one actually works... yep it's MOReen. Love that car!

Had a trip down south today to the Ormskirk area to drop off three large boxes of my wife's City and Guilds embroidery coursework for assessment. Went west over the A66 and down the M6 before returning home via Skipton and Ripon. The car was a treat to drive and she never missed a beat as we passed through some spectacular countryside.

There wasn't much of interest on the roads: a 1932 Austin on a trailer, an XJS (newer than MOReen) which we overtook on the M6 and best of all a Renault 5. Nearly forgot, we did see a Ferrarri, but the R5 was more interesting.

26 degrees forecast for us for tomorrow according to the BBC! I'd love to have the time to go somewhere in the XM to enjoy the working air con but since we have a plasterer coming to do two ceilings and a wall, that seems unlikely. It was nice, however, to be able to sit in the garden in shirt sleeves with the best beloved at 10 o' clock tonight sipping a refreshing fermented apple juice.

Money seems to have an aversion to me at the moment, my newly acquired C4 needed complete new rear brakes this week, including callipers. :-)

Hope you all have a good week end.

Thanks Rob :D And you too...

After last and Wednesday I'm having a very quiet one at home and going nowhere at all and keeping out of the sun as last weekend I got so badly burned I've spent the week looking like the Singing Detective

Had a morning of baking a cake and bread and getting ready to make a batch of strawberry jam. My strawberries have cropped magnificently this year :D

For the rest of the time I'm seriously resting as I need to but may just do an oil change on the XM later...
