'J' plate SD saloon available!!

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

In ALL honesty, Im playing with the idea, but I havent really got time to mess with all the filtering - hence the love of the HDi, MPG and Performance in one...

I would be more inclined to to "HOPE" that mixing the veg with diesel togther in the tank should reduce the ratio..

Oh, yes also, small journeys!!??? What ARE they! Mine is about 40miles each way! And dual carrage way too.. We dont ALL live in Citys..

Hmmm...

I drive three dual carriageways and three motorways to get to the office. I don't live in a City, but iirc, Russ does, and tends to do short journeys.

Russ lives in a town. There is only one city in Gloucestershire!!! And that is the county capital.

I'm doing high mileages too constantly.

My hdi in the dispatch is less fuel efficient than the xud engines.

I like that HDI too.!!

Yes I do short journeys...in a town...shameful!!!

Hence my slight reluctance to using it. I try not to do short journeys if I can help it...the car is always warmed up by journeys end....but I will admit..not good practice.

Still... it had a good run today down some duel carriage ways. And will have a decent run this weekend too.

Ahhhh but panic not russ.. a diesel does NOT suffer from the horrid mayonasie build up that petrol engines suffer in short stop start journeys in towns.. they are the best thing for town driving and so less like to suffer premature engine wear from contaminated oil from condensation..

Oh yes...that's true. More oily fuel, so less wear. Better lubrication for cold engine too.

Down side though, ruins the emissions, but a simple clear out sorts that issue out.

Well the car arrived. I spent a few hours today washing the underneath - there was a fair amount of mud to be removed. It looks reasonable overall for a 160K car. Although to be honest, the rust on the front sills is worse than I expected. I need to get under it to have a better look and see whether it's within my scope to fix. A question ...the ABS light does not come on ....would it have abs on a j plate? How can I tell? I can't see an ABS unit in the engine bay

Hi Steve.

ABS was an option on the XM from the off.. Most did have it, but some have recently come my way without..

Lift the lid off the ECU box on the left side (behind the drivers head light) If theres ABS there be TWO ECU's in there, one for suspension, and one for the ABS, otherwise there be only one with two plugs in it for the suspension...

Front out riggers behind the inner cill are becoming more common for rusting out...

Have a look at Page 29, I had to weld my SD on both sides..

Brilliant Steve. Look forward to some piccies of it all cleaned up.
I'm sure you can sort the rust issue out.
