Re: Rob's SED
I really liked the Michelin Energy Savers on the various XMs. I agree with Jaap that you need to do a lot of driving to get the full life out of the Michelins. They do have a habit of deteriorating fast after about 4/5 years. I have Pirellis on my C5 and I like them a lot, apart from them being pretty noisy. A set of new 19" wheels and Michelin tyres for a C5 have appeared on e-bay which are tempting me (thats how I ended up with the Pirellis).

The Mazda eats a set of tyres every 18month to two years, these mitchelins were not even 1 year old

Re: Rob's SED
I find Michelins do crack the sidewalls, but are perfectly legal and safe with that. They seem to give better ride, better wet grip and definitely longer life than other brands.
I got 40k miles out of the set on the Merc and changed due to snow.
Cheap tyres often have very poor wet grip performance. You find out just when you need it most.

Re: Rob's SED
I should imagine thats what it was Robert, such a thing should not exist when buying a premium brand tyre though imo.robert_e_smart wrote:That is bad Dean. Hopefully just a bad batch.
And a slight oversight on my behalf, its Maxxis tyres im running now, no issues at all, just as quiet, comfy and good in the rain although i will admit that usualy cheap tyres do lack in the makeup of the compound and so suffer in the wet. The thing is most 'cheap' tyres are now looking pretty good against the competition, if you go for sunsun or the like this is not the case but Nexen really have impressed me recently, so much so the XM will be wearing a nice new set soon.

Re: Rob's SED
I had Nexxens on the Activa (it came with Nexxens I should say), and it was good at scrubbing the edges off them!!

Re: Rob's SED
Thanks for the comments, tyres always seem to generate debate.
I think I shall give the Maxxis a try. I seem to be doing about 5-6k a year in the XM so high mileages isn't a big issue.
