NO you dont, but it also depends if the exhaust manifold/turbo has been swapped or just had a plate bolted over the egr hole

No. That is correct for an early auto as they didn't have EGR.

Really? EGR was kept off Autos only for another year

I know all K reg manual DERVs have EGR, we have got an L reg S1.5 auto TD WITH EGR and bosch hidden in a shed covered up... So there was a change again between 1993/4 (K/L)

Slightly later cars did indeed get the aluminium manifold and EGR.

Get it blanked Paul.

I had good results on blanking the EGR Valves on my 407 Coupe, didn't make any noticeable difference to the C5. But stopped the 407 estate going into limp mode.

Dads C5 went through a period of faulty EGR valves and limp home mode problems. To be honest I think it should almost be the first thing you should do, blank the damn things off.

Still it behaves now. Think it was a vacuum leak on a pipe somewhere in the end.
