Gosh Jaap, just been catching up on all of your fun and games... Oh dear. So it's the same old problems that afflicts the Xantia then.

I know all about the IC-01 bulkhead connector on the Xantia and I'm not happy to learn the XM has one too

Never yet succeeded in getting one apart although the problems are rarely there and more likely the splices in the loom near the radiator..

That ignition switch looks like it's been hot too. The white wire seems to have go very heat discoloured by the body of the switch.

So far so good Jim, I might have fixed the problem in one go, both stalling and hand brake. All systems normal again.
Leaves the speedo, I've got one more trick left. I don't think there's anything wrong with the bulkhead connector yet.
And I must get that relay build in when I find the courage:)

It is with pleasure to announce that I now have full confidence again in mrs. Diesel, after my amateur diagnostics and consequent repairs of the hand brakes, the ignition cables and not to forget the speedometer. So ready to engage in another weeks commuting.

I have dissected the red plug under the dashboard clock and it really is incredibly citroen design. A miracle that any electric current, even 1 volt, should go on such microscopic pieces of open wiring. Anyway that plug was the culprit once again and I now rigorously changed the first two wire connections.
The car still drives great all be it somewhat slooowwwish but that was easily delt with by taking the petrol version of the blue limousines. Loved to drive that too this weekend, nice and quick but a bit more nervous on the suspension side, a little but not too much! So both blue ones have now improved lighting installed as well, one accidentally yellow. It looks great but gives somewhat less vision but not bad and far better than the original H1's.
I wonder if a rebuild of the Diesel's turbo might be on the wishlist at some stage. Or is that a horrible job ?

Excellent news Jaap. Well done. :D
I can thoroughly recommend Osram nightbreaker H1. They seem nice and bright.

I would be so interested to drive your derv to see how it compares to mine. Why do you think the turbo needs rebuilding.
I found adjusting the kickdown cable helps. Although it has been a bit trial and error getting it right for some reason. ;)

Do the have blue tipped glass Russ? I bought 4 special H1's for the Xantia years ago and they were far better than originals. I still have 2 of the working after all those years and they were in the petrol, giving still better beams than the diesel. I now put those 2 remaining blue tipped H1 in my main beams since I need them on a daily basis..

Give me some tutorial on adjusting this cable cause I've never tweaked any cables yet:) Is this to be found in the Haynes as well?

Yes, the bulbs I got do have blue tips. There very good so far, I wouldn't go back to yellower bulbs.

The kickdown adjustment is in the Haynes manual. The cable runs across the engine just under the large intake pipe on the manifold and round a large grey pulley wheel thing. You need to disconnect that pipe to get to he adjustment screw and bolts. It is very easy to do. But I found my cable is quite slack and no matter how much I adjust it isn't as taught as it could be. But I think I have found the best or correct adjustment now. I'll check with Jim again at CXM!!!!

But it was much better after adjustment. How's you ATF fluid level?

ATF fluid is fine, it's just the difference between the petrol and the diesel:) Ant the petrol doesn't even have that tubor.... That cable you mean is quite slack-ish. I'll twist it some tomorrow! Hope it won't start stalling again! :)

You're so right Jaap... It amazes me every time. It's more by luck and blind faith rather than any quality design that any current at all flows..

The sluggish behavior is probably the accelerator cable being slack along with the damper on th pump lever sticking.

Remove the damper and tension the cable so that it pulls the accelerator lever right tot eh stop and I think you will have better performance.
