Selling off one (or bits

) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

With brilliant timing, straight after a rally,

I need to find a good 2.1 kickdown cable. Would anyone have one, or know where a good place is to go to get a new one.
I don't really want to take mine off and send it to somewhere like speedy cables to make up a new one, as that would mean putting the car out of action.
Thanks in advance
Russ

Hi Russ...
The cable I beleve is attached inside the box but wont simply "undo" to remove. Incidentally the cable is NFP from Citroen...
So its gonna be someone who has one stored somewhere before you get one. Ive only got TCT and V6 autobox's...

As I thought then Paul,
Either get it out and get a new one made up. Or try and find a used one.....was absolutely convinced
Citroen wouldn't have one, as I haven't even bothered trying them.
This is getting tricky.

I can't see that cable stretching, it's not under much tension.

Something is definitely up with it, as no matter what you do to adjust the cable it is quite slack. I had a look at Geoffs ...white mk2 2.1 auto.. kickdown cable at the Stratford rally and was much better than mine. he actually had a look at mine and with Jim, and both said it was slacker, and Jim's idea is that it has stretched at the gear box end. But how ....no idea.
Anyway, I have readjusted it for now and see how it goes. But on the way home, it was not great to say the least.

Russ your cable is adjusted too tight, disconnect it from the throttle and pull it by hand, it should be very easy to pull but with recoil load on it (inner should pull itself back in untill the ferrel hits the outer). Near the end of its travel you should feel a significant increase in recoil strength and a notch, the cable will not have stretched, as Will says its not under any load, the only reason it will be slack is if the recoil spring is dead or the cable has snapped either of which will be easy to detect.
Just for info really, to remove the kickdown cable you must remove the valveblock, always refit the valve block with the selector in 1st and check the selector on the underside of the block ocates with the selector mech in the gearbox.

Ahhhh. So that's where the little rascal goes in. Thanks Dean for that. Very interesting indeed.
Too tight you think. Okay, I'll have another look and see tomorrow. I'll report back.....

You can drive it with no kickdown cable Russ, just he prepared to changed down manually with the lever.
