Peugeot sell a "Peugeot Sport" exhaust for the car that gives it a tailpipe at either side of the bumper but it's £800 so I reckon I'll make do with it as it is.

We've also got a 406 Coupe in the household which is a much prettier looking car then the 407. It's one of the last 3.0 V6 Manual's as well. It looks much smaller when parked next to the 407 and feels smaller, quicker and a bit more nimble to drive.

The proportions on the 406 are much more elegant then they are on the 407. I don't think the 407 is a bad looking car, in fact, by modern standards it's actually a good looking one, however it's nowhere near as pretty as the 406.

David.
 will do! Don't hold your breath though!!
I didn't know they did a exhaust tail pipe conversion like the one I showed. Did Peugeot change it though like the later C6's?

They are both great looking cars, but they both have issues. 406 slightly dull interior, the 407 naff rear bumper.
But the 406 is a really good looking coupe. It is really well proportioned....just looks special. Pininfarina for you...on a good day too. Lovely.
Now I might have this wrong, but didn't the 406 coupe project start life as a Xantia coupe.....now that would be interesting. ;) :)

If what I've read is true the 406 Coupe was actually drawn by Pininfarina as a budget Ferrari that was supposed to allow people who couldn't afford the all singing, all dancing ones to own one. Apparently Ferrari rejected the design that Pininfarina proposed and Peugeot bought it for the 406 Coupe.

A Xantia Coupe with Activa suspension a V6 engine and a manual gearbox would of been superb!

And yea, it looks like they did change the exhaust as standard when they put the 3.0 HDi in them briefly before production ended...

Here's a picture of the 2010 model year.

Here's the link to the Sport one which apparently adds a throaty tone to the car...

So they did tweak the exhausts....thought they might have. Looks good having exhausts both sides. It looked good on the c6 too.

So maybe then the 406 came about as combination of both...citroen started a coupe plan, didn't work...Peugeot took it up and bought pininfarinas design. et voila. Well however it was all devised, Peugeot got a bloody good looking car. :D

Your quite right though David....a Xantia Activa v6 coupe would have been very very interesting. Might have to do a dream illustration!!!

Please do Russ :D Those of us who drive Activas still mourn the fact that it looks like a Xantia and not the gorgeous hunk of sheer Pininfarina beauty that became the 406 coupé and got soggy tin springs into the bargain. It was supposed to be the Citroen Activa and never a posh Pug at all.

They say that you should never drive your heros. I think and still do think the 406 coupé is one of the most achingly beautiful cars ever. I was elated when I had the opportunity of driving a V6 manual one. Lovely car but the suspension was a terrible disappointment... Mind, I find most suspension systems a disappointment after a Xantias and XMs. I even find Xantia suspension a disappointment after XM suspension...

With Activa suspension the 406 Coupé would have been the best car ever...

Such a missed opportunity :(

I think if they had done it...it could have ended up being one of the best coupes on the market in its era. It would have been very interesting comparing it to the usual coupe fodder.

Well I will see what I can do illustration wise......

Looks like a nice motor and the gearbox is the right one for the car :)

Is that air inlet flow diverter adrift in the engine bay as well as it looks to be sitting at a strange angle?!?

PS saw your silver XM the other day as well ;) :D Looked a bit sad though :(

I know, it does :( Needs a wash terribly, especially the wheels. I even took it to CXM looking dirty and unloved even though it is dearly loved...

I can't remember the last time I washed a car...

I thought that about the air duct as well Will, however it's got a locking pin holding it in place.

I think he means my S1 24v XM, Jim. Unfortunately the guy I bought it from had left it parked in a hedge for 2 years before I bought it so it never was the prettiest car on the planet but it was in good condition inside and mechanically it was fairly good other then the corrosion. :(

Ahh right. I'm off to SpecSavers this afternoon...

Speaking of the 407 Coupé I notice there's a black V6 living just round the corner from me. It's been there ages but I never really took any real notice of it until you started speaking of yours David... Another good reason to go to SpecSavers..
