Re: SM owner saying hello
It's still overfuelling, as a final throttle flex in the garage showed - partially combusted petrol everywhere. That's the D Jetronic though, and getting the injection system updated will cure that (and give a lot more torque and power).

Re: SM owner saying hello
Took the beast out today for a run down to Hungerford and back. Apart from a particularly strong gust connecting with the car at a very exposed point, the side winds did not bother her at all, and the one that did was a slight shimmy. Very impressed with the stability of the car in some pretty appalling conditions. As I came back at a good pace the engine was nice and warm, then the thing I would absolutely dread - a mile long tailback to my junction, car got hotter, but ignition kept igniting and no hint of any stalling. So with everything toasty warm, I took the slow crawling traffic route home, lots of loons and traffic lights to see if I could induce a stall. Nada, zip, null. It's certainly cured the stall in the conditions I've had so far. Still drinks fuel like a foreign legionnaire at an oasis, but I can reasonably expect to get her to Holland for the next stage of frog kissing.

Excellent Charles
I like that one...
Last night we took my XM shopping. I filled her with finest Tesco petrol and I made a casual remark to the cashier that the car has a very healthy appetite for petrol.
The cashier looks out at the XM by the pump and asks 'Is that one of those American cars? It looks awfully big....'

I got 77 litres into the Cobalt car the other day and the cashier commented it must have a large tank.

Re: SM owner saying hello
I don’t know how many litres it was now Will but when I first picked up mine first stop was the nearest petrol station and it took £110 worth of the stuff....
Never put so much fuel in a vehicle in all my life.
At least I know when the gauge reads zero and the low fuel light is on there's still a bit in reserve.

Re: SM owner saying hello
The SM has an 80 litre tank which it gets through at about 15mpg. Much of it is in semi-carbonised form at the back of the garage as the stuff almost pours out on start up. The joys of D Jetronic until it is replaced this winter.

Good show Charles you're replacing it! What are you going to use? VEMS? Jim, I fill up those XM's all the time since they're being used all the time too. I love the diesel for it: > 46.3 MPG last week, we try to use that the most now. The petrol XM got new brakes and aligned wheels once again. Also now on winter 195 winter tyres. She does >36 MPG on average.
And I've managed to buy >80 litres of petrol in one filling up session.
