Dig your heels in with the insurance company.

Tell them that under no circumstances will you be giving the keys to anybody who comes to collect the car.

You are entitled to the option of buying the salvage vehicle back from them. Just phone the insurance company and tell them that you want to retain the vehicle and under no circumstances is it to be scrapped. They will usually take 10% of the settlement to keep it. I've done this a couple of times when my car was hit and Cheryl's car were hit in car parks when we weren't present.

Once you can do that you can repair that car for next to nothing if you can get parts in the right colour.

Dig your heels in and refuse to budge.

Saga.

I have reported them to the ombudsmann and this has made them change their attitude and try to sort things out 'peacefully'.
After the truck taken the car away i got a call from the manager saying i could keep the car and increased their offer by another £100 which still is not enough.
I'll try to get them to bring the car back. Getting a bit fed up of this now.

I agree with doing it in writing but unless you have an email address which is a rare thing to get, doing things in writing takes far to long.

I've had to deal with a situation similar to this 3 times over the last 5 years, twice when my cars have been hit whilst parked and once when someone went into the back of my fiancé whilst she was sat at a set of traffic lights, I've always managed to get what I want purely by digging my heels in and refusing to budge. The case handlers are targeted on how quickly and efficiently they can settle a claim so it's in their best interests to come to an amicable solution.
