Hi Neil,

I had the same problem with my old battery....it was a good one and not that old, but with lack of use it died and no amount of jump starting and leaving it running helped it. Ive since put a new one on and its been fine for weeks....the car still doesnt get used either

Looking forward to it Jim.

The battery is not the best there is, and with its lack of use over the Winter, having to be jumped off every week is not going to have done it any good. :(

Ahh well it's only money.

I put the battery on from the Xantia and left it on over the weekend. No problem with starting, even the central locking behaved itself.

So today after work I took the plunge and bought a new battery for the Xantia, and will leave that one on the XM.

She behaved herself admirably over the weekend and it made a nice change to actually use her on the road for a change. Around the town the gearchange can be a bit notchy but get her on the open road and the comfort is superb.

Work's been silly of late to the point whereby not only has the XM sat in the garage since the X rally :( but my Xantia has not had the tlc it needs. I always service the Xantia every March (with another oil change in September); only just had chance to do it this week. The handbrake went limp on Sunday and I found the NS cable has split. The exhaust has also gone pop, just as the pipe enters the back box. It looks as though the pipe has corroded behind the clamp. It can be welded up for now but I will be on the lookout for a really good exhaust, if only to put in the garage for a rainy day.

Once the Xantia was sorted time to get the XM out. Seeing as it hasn't had any polish since last Autumn time for a quick wash and then a steady hand polish. The paint is rather thin in places and hand polishing may be more prudent than using a machine. A run round with the Meguiar's to keep the rubbers black and then give the windows a good clean. The interior never needs as much work, and a quick wipe round is always suffice. I'm quite impressed how clean she comes up with a bit of spit and polish.

Now seeing as the Northern should have been this weekend and the sun is shining, you just know it's going to sling it down next weekend. :P

I've got much the same problems with work Neil and the cars are being neglected again. Yesterday had to be a chill day for me where I did nothing much just to recover from the week. Got loads to do on all of the cars..

One good thing is that Xantia handbrake cables are very easy indeed...
