Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

XM 2.1 td estate with Bosch injection pump wanted

Post by irondonkey » Thu May 29, 2014 1:24 pm

Hi Folks,
After owning both a hatch and an estate many moons a go and finding modern cars dull and uncomfortable, I am looking to find a decent XM estate car with the 2.1td engine fitted with the Bosch injection pump and leather seats.....the lat one I owned was fitted with the rotodiesel pump which had to be replaced twice so I'm not prepared to consider one of those again !
Ideally it will be a VSX spec and be currently taxed and MOT'd ready to drive away, so no rubbish please.
Either contact me here or email garyclements7@hotmail.com or text me on 07887 661114

Hi Gary

I think you will find your quest a bit difficult.
All the later XM 2.1 diesel estates were fitted with Lucas EPIC pumps from 1996 onwards.
So they only got Bosch pumps for the first 2 years of Mk2 XM production.
Leather in a XM mk 2 diesel estate was a paid extra not a standard item.
Diesel estates were generally bought as working cars so high mileage is the norm.
Underside and back end attack by road salt has most needing some welding.
Virtually all the good ones have found homes which are unlikely to part.

Currently I think there are less than 800 XM's of all types on the road in the UK.

I can only advise that you check out anything you find very carefully.

I haven't seen one of any sort in the last year or more - except the four in my field.

Lucas Epic...wasnt that the piece of junk fitted to the Xantia 2.1td's.....that was garbage too...I ended up scrapping 2 otherwise good cars due to pump failures I think the epic pumps were lucky to see 100k without terminalfailure of something.

Quite a few members on here running cars with Lucas EPIC with very good economy.
Plenty of advice on EPIC pump repairs.
Can be a very good pump as long as it is not fed veg oil.
Even advice on retro fitting a Bosch pump.
Quite a few of us would see no sense in scrapping a good car if the pump went.

Obviously not now, but 10 or so years back when they were worth very little and were uneconomical to repair there was little choice.

I have a Bosch-pumped XM VSX diesel manual estate in blue with leather interior I may sell if the price was right (price would need to be as I won't get another quite so easily). MoT'd till December, but not taxed at present. Not a rust bucket but does need a patch on the passenger side sill welded just now at the B pillar. Starts and stops, goes up and down. It's even on alloys, which not all VSXs had (ditto leather), although a set of steel wheels is available. It's at about 180k but new clutch, timing belt kit and head gasket at 144,000. Lacquer peel to the roof and a small ding on the bonnet where a tile fell on to it in the storms. Sunroof not working but spare sunroof supplied. All the windows work, the lhs digi display is missing a few pixels and the temp sensor is not reading. The tape deck can be tempermental but plays OK. Needs an oil and filter change. Haven't been using it since it was MoT'd in December last year.
