Wanted Bosch fuel pump for 2.1 td. K reg

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Wanted Bosch fuel pump for 2.1 td. K reg

Post by Smoothcruiser » Fri May 09, 2014 4:43 pm

Hi all,
So I'm on the look out for a Bosch fuel pump for my recently acquired K reg 2.1TD.
The current one is leaking diesel and although the car still runs ok, it's going to want replacing at some point..

On another note:
Bit surprised to see my previous L 449sjk reg 2.1td that I took to Wolsey house went for £495!!
I wanted an honest sale, so my conscience was clear. There were quite a few gremlins as I mentioned on here. A barn find from a collector moving to France... Yeah I wish!
Bit odd they failed to mention it had a valid MOT until oct 2014 too!

Anyone on here know what happened to it?

Cheers
Andy

I looked at that and would of had it smoothcruiser! By that I meant DIRECTLY from you.. As you might of seen on here, ive had a couple in done them up properly best I can and sold them, HOWEVER, the last one was a REGRET!!

I was interested..

As for your pump, they are getting like Hens Gold Teeth, Im STILL wanting to one day, try an EARLY Xantia/306 1.9 TD pump on an XM, with mechanical vaccuum control. These pumps DO NOT have the Wax Stat advance on them. I cant see why they wont run on a 2.1, maybee a fuel up a bit. They are slightly more common at the moment..

Sorry to hear that about you missing out on my car. I did advertise it here first and handed out my telephone number too.. I had a little interest, but nobody showed a genuine interest or call me to discuss.
The car had to go within a week or so I decided to keep the car complete and part ex it for spares at Wolsey house... I only wish I'd have known about the dodgy fuel pump on my new one at the time!

Just wondering whether there's anyone who has a Bosch pump for a 2.1?? My cars a 1992
I had a seal replaced and has blown the replacement within 2 weeks. Leaking diesel onto the cam belt again.
Not a cheap repair either as the pump had to come out.
I've seen a couple advertised on eBay that start at around £200 bracket and I'm not convinced they are compatible with my car..?

Would appreciate any advise anyone might be able to offer.
Many thanks
Andy

Andy - that pump, advertised, is off of a 2.1D i.e. a non turbo engine, so not suitable.

The pump on my car reads 0 460 494 310 and says type 431 ver 474.

The pump on eBay reads

0 460 494 265 type 533 ver 397

Does anyone know whether they are compatible? The eBay add States they are compatible with all xm 2.1 td. I'm dubious.

I have had a quote to refurbish the current pump and it comes out in excess of £500 before fitting 😧

Thanks again
Andy

Thanks for the reply sdelasel. Yes, as I suspected. Not compatible.

From looking, you can see there is no fuel enrichment boost device on top of the pump - as fitted to a turbo pump. It shoudl be possible to fit the top of your old pump to the bottom of a 2.1D pump - but that's a lot of work and perhaps not what you want to do to a new pump. Steve

You will have a job getting one!

BE CAREFULL not to be fooled into buying a 1.9 TD Bosch Pump palmed off as a 2.1 Pump. There IS a difference between them though not a lot.

Im sure a 1.9 pump would power a 2.1 TD engine with a Fuel adjustment but Im not certain. 2.1 TD pumps have an advance on the front of the pump connected to the cooling system. 1.9 TD pumps dont.

Id have a go at getting a 1.9 pump to work on a 2.1, but never got round to it. Ive LOADS of 1.9 td pumps.. but dont we all! :D

Does anyone know what would cause the pump to malfunction? The car has only done 45,000 miles. Although it has been stood outdoors for over a year, and I'm guessing there is a buildup of dirt in the fuel system that has caused the sale to blow out. It's the one at the back of the pump that is leaking and causing the problem.
