joining the ranks of XM ownership

Post by citsncycles » Mon Jun 23, 2014 10:26 pm

Hi, some of you will recognise me from BXC and CCC, but for those who don't I'm Mike Sims. I've owned and run Citroens for 18 years, starting with H and A series vehicles, then graduating to a GS, BX's and a Visa. I'm now in the process of buying a K reg. 2.1 Turbo SD to add to the collection, which I'll be collecting after I get back from Ireland next week (I leave tonight!).

I'll post some pics (and a couple of wants) when I collect it.

Lots of other Citroens, including 3xBX, GS, Visa, Dyane, Dyane Nomad, 2CV, HY pickup.
Also Land Rovers, Trabant, DKW cars, Honda, Ural, CZ, Mobylette and Puch motorcycles, and lots of bicycles and tricycles.

Excellent news Mike. I'm sure you'll enjoy the virtues of XM ownership and are mechanically gifted enough to weather the storm of the XM pitfalls. Have a great time on the Irish Challnge and I shall look forward to seeing some pictures of your new steed.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Those who know me will not be surprised to learn that the XM I'm getting is cosmetically challenged, although unusually for me this doesn't mean acres of welding needed (although I'm not ruling it out!). The main issues are missing front sidelight lenses, a cracked front fog light lens and some paint work issues. Mechanically there's a CV joint knocking, and there's a few electrical issues, but mechanically it's generally good despite 240+k on the clock, and it drives very nicely. There's a stack of history with it too, showing that most of the mileage was in it's early life, with it only covering 1 or 2 thousand a year for the last few years. Oh, and after reading some of the forum threads it's probably worth mentioning it's not red!

I have run 2.1 estates for over 15 years and still have one although its on SORN at the moment, absolutely brilliant cars. They can have problems as can any car but once you have them sorted they are very reliable. I was doing about 30k miles per year at one time and very rarely did it let me down.

Not many 2.1SD around. Is it manual or auto gearbox.
Is it a car already known to us and is it on the road or off the road at present?
