A CX "Saloon" will be perfect for me to be individual..

I really should stay away from the the local Citroen "Specialist". It is a customers car that the customer has lost interest in, needed a new carb, and the mechanic didn't bother putting it on, so it has sat there for a while. It has 3 excellent doors, an excellent bonnet, and the front wings are goood. I was eyeing it up as a panel donor for the Prestige, but I think it might be too good for that. I haven't seen it running, so have no idea what the floor, sills or subframes are like. I hope they're as good as the rest of it.

CXs are too addictive.

So Paul, Dean and any other secret CX worshipers out there, bow down and worship the mighty CX and become owners, the perfect car to compliment your XMs.

Im trying to Robert, but other things keep comming in my way.. Need to Rid the Black XM - can make a start now the engines arriving this weekend, then decide what to do with my V6 12v SEi auto, then REALLY deicde what to do with the current Xantia 1.9 TD L reg im currently useing...

That will leave me two cars, the S1 24v XM, and the S1 24v Xantia.... which BOTH are stopping with me

I did see that SM and there is no way i would want the CX hurse, a Carb SM would be the ultimate and for 10k its not a bad price either, out of my league too at the moment but that SM is lovely, no way that would be a daily car though i wouldnt waste a CX or SM on the daily run it would get ruined, it would be a case of buying the SM and getting a Focus or some other easy to maintain crappy modern ish car that you can leave in carparks etc without having a mental breakdown when some prat scratches it.
So SM in my opinion is the daddy followed by a Turbo2 CX then an XM of any (Petrol) flavour but of course being a bit mentaly backwards i have to keep my cars in top condition so i would only have time and money to lavish on one vehicle..........would have to be only one of the above, its a hard decision to make Gents

Right. So, just that I've got all the above straight in my mind then, black is the ultimate colour to have,
especially on a Cx, but only on a saloon as the far better handling, more practical estate is considered
a big'ol hearse and then only as a stopgap make-do alternative to an expensive complex 17 foot long
two seater that uses a flawed temperamental Italian engine clothed in a bodyshell that rots as quickly
as a Gs of similar vintage and is considered by many to be too fragile to use regularly. There's a glass
and stainless steel nose that's hideously expensive if at all even feasible to renew should there be a
tiny parking dink which will be more likely as these only sold in LHD??

BTW, Robert, my black 2.5 manual petrol 2.5 GTi engined "hearse" is a TRi Familale 7 seater that I've
converted to a 5 seater Safari set up and I consider to be my most likeable usable Citroen that I miss
not being on the road every day!

As a fantastic Citroen plaything I can see the attraction of an Sm and I certainly wouldn't say no were
I to have the spare cash. Thing is, were I to, personally I'd advocate a D over an Sm. There's nothing
else quite like it as a piece of automotive art and motoring a milestone where nothing has ever really
made such an impact. A grey sharknose 23 EFi with black roof please...

Didnt mean to offend by calling you much loved CX a hurse Andrew , and yes the Sm will rust but a D or Cx are by no means immune to the brown stuff and tbh any 70's car now is going to need a bit of tlc on the tin worm front, im not interested how many people i can get it, because im a misserable git who enjoys driving on his own, and i wouldnt risk causing damage by carrying anything in it so i dont care if it has a boot or not, ive always wanted one and they are soooooooooo beutifull ( and tax exempt which is bound to make you feel just a little smug) and thats the only excuse we need isnt it??

If the photo's are generic which of course they must be, i would of thought a pair of new front struts for a hydractive xm at under £100 was a bit of a bargain?

Dean, I'm not in any way offended by the "hearse" tag (this goes with the territory and why
the previous owner fitted a yellow 'acid' smiley sticker on the tailgate ), more frustrated
that such a bloody good car is dismissed by dint of it's colour. The rust issue is the real Cx
achilles heel - if it had been galvanised and didn't have a handbrake that only lasts 5 minutes
in adjustment (OK, that's harsh, 5 days), it would slaughter an Xm estate.

Yeah estates are a small van really and its hard to make them look good, but the CX does look ok in estate form, and i think this is where the xm estate falls down, it is a hatch with bits stuck on, even the doors are the same with plastic extensions stuck on top, i look at the Xm estate and see the hatch back, and the sweeping line where the hatch should be (side on) but then there is a box glued onto it. The Cx i think is superb though, it just doesnt give the impression that corners were cut if you know what i mean.
Why wont the handbrake stay adjusted???

I would love to have a proper CX Corbillard (hearse) in my fleet, for my own personal use, until such times that I ride in it for the last time!



I don't like CXs in solid colours, I prefer the metallics. But then again, the metalic paint was the weakness on my Athena since it was crap and all peeled off.

A SM would be superb, but by the time I will actually be able to afford one at current prices, they will be too dear for me by then! I also vowed after buying my last CX that I wouldn't buy a car that could out rot a CX. By the time I have the CX 20 and the Prestige finished I will be a super welder, and a dab hand at changing rear subframes.

CX handbrakes are just awful, Its the mechanism that is crap on them, they have their own individual pads, but I don't know why they're so bad. I had the one on the Athena adjusted down to 3 clicks for the MOT. Before I set it again last weekend it wouldn't even hold the car still on level ground. So back down to three clicks on saturday, and now its about 1/2 up its travel.
