What on earth is this?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

How are people adjusting the handbrake, not merely by the cable, are they. My memory of GS says the pads should be adjusted to bring them in to the disk, then the cable adjusted to take up any slack.
If the cable is used instead of the pad sdjustment it keeps going out.

Here is a photo of the handbrake mechanism, I don't know how it compares to a GS setup.

Here is the guide where the photo came from for reference.

It's a torturous and ultimately useless setup despite trying to be elegant in it's execution.
The real objective when the car was designed was for the Cx to use inboard disks (as per D and G models)
on an aircooled flat 6 and/or a tri-rotary engine and the eventual setup does smack of lastminute.com design.

It helps if the handbrake pads are new/meaty and the cables aren't stretched mind.

I can't believe shane said this:

Shane L.
PS: Yes the handbrake is a garbage bit of design compared the rest of the car, the DS's, GS's and BX's (after the CX) were vastly supperior in everyway including holding power and longetivity.

I wonder if he'll admit the system on an XM is better.. :D

You have to say though, the CX system does look particularly poor..

He'll probably make some comment along the lines of why would you want to stop the POS car running away down a hill.

 Yep, seems to be a hate/hate relationship. I dread to think what Shane's view of it would be were
the autobox to totally pack in the minute the head job is finished - seems it's teetering already. :?

Its incredible, I was reading a thread on the aussie frogs forum about him re-spraying that car and the effort that he put into it. I would have thought that he would have more time for it... However he is correct that acess on these is awful. 2.0 8V N/As are the way forward for access.

I believe that whilst Shane may secretly love the Xm, it's more likely his Missus is the main recipient
of all the blood, sweat, tears and profanity spent on the car - have you seen the strip down and repaint
in two pack of his Cx - he's getting pretty good at painting cars now I must say - I'm well impressed. :D
