Happy XM ing, they just need to drive I reckon. How did you flush the steering rack?

Great news about the Pump Vince. ...and power steering. Sounds like your old pump is leaking where mine was from the main o ring seal. It goes flat and stops sealing.

Happy motoring this weekend. :D I am sure you'll enjoy having it back in service.

I found myself in the same position as you with car insurance. Little frustrating not being able to drive another car. I will look into a better policy next year.

I just insure on a comprehensive policy, including legal, business and breakdown cover and don't think it's much more than the classic policy prices.

I've seen that video ages ago Will. Was it you? :P

Well I've been out a little bit this weekend in the xm, going to work and launderette run etc....Nice to be back in the old girl again :)

I've put 20 litres of diesel in it this morning as its had 100% veg put in it. Starting and idling in the mornings wasn't very smooth and quite noisy, this afternoon it started alot quieter and with a nice smooth idle although a morning start will provide the acid test.

The pump is still leaking out the bottom, but once its warmed up you cant see much of a leak from it and its not nailing fuel on the needle so im sure it will be fine until i get over to Paul's on friday ;)

One massive difference I've seen is the rear suspension is now super soft :) What i did a few days ago was put my super heavy 3 ton trolley jack in the back and ive run it around a bit to help awaken the rear brakes and suspension. I dont think its ever been that soft 8-) The front feels slightly stiff now by comparison.

The only issue i have now apart from the pump is a mysterious metallic tinkling sound which comes and goes when driving at low speeds. Im utterly convinced its the inner cv boot clip thats come off or broken from when i had the inner cv boot replaced. Its that kind of sound..either that or an exhaust clamp noise but ive checked the exhaust and its fine from what i can see/feel.

Might go out for an evening drive tonight to my mates garage and get it up on a trolley jack to have a look. ;)

Well alot has happened in the last few days

Firstly, the metallic tinkling noise has been found and put right ;) After crawling all over the underside of the car at my mates garage the other night and finding nothing, I figured id remove the front drivers side wheel and arch liners and get my head into the driveshaft area. As soon as i rotated the wheel i heard the noise! Removed the wheel trim and the cause was found :)

When the inner boot had been done, the hub nut had been removed and refitted. the outer corrugated retaining washer had no split pin in it so it had been spinning around in the small space it had to move in and that was the noise :D A nice easy fix ;)

The xm has been used heavily since last weekend as i unfortunately lost my job at Andrew Page on tuesday morning, so its seeing daily use as i run around on my daily chores ;)

I tried to do the chrome tape like Russ on it this morning, but its too cold i think as it wouldnt stick. Ill do it another day in the garage and get the heaters on for a while first.

In the meantime im free for any work anyone needs doing on cars...all proceeds will go to helping me feed my family every day until i find something else
