wanted: driver side headlight

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

wanted: driver side headlight

Post by Aerodynamica » Wed Nov 05, 2014 10:14 am

Anyone have a replacement headlight up for grabs?

Following last night's bump I need a replacement.

Needs to be the series one type with the internal plastic lens (just so it matches!)

S2 RHD will have the internal plastic lens as well.
If it's only the front glass that's broken, you can always uncllip the glass from the headlamp body, and swap in a new one, maybe reusing your existing lens, if intact.
Front glass, as a separate new part, was once available, but no longer - just the complete headlight unit.

Isn't there a difference in the pattern of the series two outer glass too?

Correct - the later LHD headlight glass acquired the lens pattern of the plastic fresnel, so doing away with the need for the plastic bit.
RHD headlights stayed the same (and still require the plastic lens).
RHD headlights (like your existing) have an arrow on the glass -----> pointing to the LH kerb, i.e. the direction of dip.

Hi Graeme

As already stated by other posting (The glass lens and frensel are the same for both S1/S2 RHD/UK spec. vehicles) !

However please be aware that the outer plastic housings are different between the S1/S2 models due to the nosecone mounting lugs, see THIS thread for more details ;)

Isn't that thread about fog lights? Is there really a difference in the RHD headlights?

Yes XMX is quite correct about the difference in the headlight cases for the nosecone mounts, although it should be possible to adapt! Regards, Matthew T. PS. Sorry to hear about the bump Graeme!

The headlamp case difference is between Mk1 and Mk2 types not between LH and RH.
Mk1 and Mk2 nose cones are different thicknesses where the grill fits between the headlamps.
So the support blocks on Mk2 headlamps stick forward about 10mm to suit the thinner grill.
Fitting a Mk2 nosecone to a Mk1 headlamp needs a packing piece.
If you butcher a Mk2 headlamp to fit a Mk1 nosecone flush you find the support block was just thin plastic.
So a bit of creative plastic welding is needed to rebuild the support a bit further back.
