Wanted: Series 1 V6 24v

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Wanted: Series 1 V6 24v

Post by David Hallworth » Mon Oct 26, 2009 12:04 am

I know I have more chance of winning the lottery............ but thought I'd give it a go anyway.

I don't suppose anyone has or knows of anyone who is willing to part with a Series 1 V6 24v XM do you?

Both of mine are currently tucked up in the shed under cover at the moment and I don't have time to get near them.

I'm sick of driving automatics and am desperate for another XM.

It will be given a loving home and will be pampered. It won't be used every day either.

David,

I'm surprised that you of all people needs another one!! I thought you had 40% of the remaining UK
registered cars already!? :? You want more!??

You've more chance finding a 12v manual or even a CX GTi Turbo and I won't bore you with how rare they are... :o

Andrew,

My problem is that both of mine unfortunately need work doing to them and at the moment I just don't have the time that they both need.

I am however sick of driving automatics at the moment and thought I'd chance my arm at trying to get another one.

I am 100% sure that nobody will have one they want to part with but you never know.

It never hurts to ask as you rightly say, you never know! With the two you have, mine and Paul's, I can't remember
the name now for who else had one - I know he's up your way and has joined this forum and likes collecting Xm's.
but that's it - rarer than an honest politician!!

I do recall one of yours seemed to be destined for a reshell from the severity of the work it sounded like it required!? A clean break with a new one could be the answer but you've a greater chance buying that lottery ticket! ;)

I adore mine and it too needs some work to some clumsy sill damage but I'd rather give up all the other Xm's first
- if I get a bang on the head try me again with a manual 12v!

The reshell might of been a bit OTT but it needs looking at and I don't trust my own welding on something I only have one go at.

Did you see my PM Andrew?

Sure did! I'd say go for it = just the ticket!!! ;)

The unplesantness of rebuilding the inner sill on mine needs some immediate attention for an imminent MOT.
I just haven't had the opportunity to get to grips with other jobs that have befallen me lately and taken priority. :(

And if some folk offer you a few s1 24v'ers, do remember to share them out!!

After translating that one says leaky transmission.

Wonder if I could get a few spanners and bottles of gearbox oil on a flight lol.

I'm seriously tempted by it right enough.

I want one too, well further down the line anyway. I have resigned myself to having to go to France or Germany to get it though. Ahh well. All part of the charm.

What welding needs done to the car you have David?

Hi David

As a temporary stop gap a 2.5 exclusive might answer some of your needs.
Much more likely to find one that is useable now and it is bound to be a manual.
Use it for a while until a 24V is ready for the road then resell it.
You might even find driving a 2.5 has some merits, even Andrew has much to his surprise.

Not a bad idea - I'd go so far as to suggest the hydraulic clutch (a la Activa) is jolly nice and better than
the incumbent 24v one. The 2.5's can't be bad as John says. I hate diesels and yet have now bought x2
of 'em even though they're s2's!! :? ;)
